Subject: first welder purchase Mig or Stick???

 I'm looking to buy a welder for home vehicle repairs. I want to start building offroad bumpers,rock rails,ect,also repairs on broken suspention parts. I'm not sure on what to look for in a welder to meet my needs.I have seen some decent Craftsman mig welders for $300 to $400. I would be welding 1/4 to 1/8 steel,1/8 would prob be the thickest i would be useing. How many amps should the welder be?? Is gas beter than flux core?? I'm looking for the strongest welds possible. Is stick welding stronger or easyier??? Any info would be great THANKS Jay
