Not sure of using silicone bronze on cast, I have used this in the welding of galvanized metal in tig welding. I use nyrod 99 for any large cast-iron project. Yes always best to heat entire part, yet you could place on a large pre heat tip on torch, and build up with stick and always peen each pass. Cover when done welding and let cool slowly.
