Subject: Silicon Bronze MIG welding of Cast Iron

I recently learned of Silicon Bronze Alloy MIG welding wire.I have an upcoming repair job on a large cast iron casting, specifically, a smokestack for a steam traction engine. I am hesitant to stick weld it with NiRod because I have no good way of preheating the entire part(and it would take a bunch of rod!) It could be brazed, which is most likely what will end up happening. But, I was wondering if anyone out there has used the Silicon Bronze wire with the MIG process on cast iron work? It seems to me as if it might work for a project like this, but maybe I am way off, and a roll of this stuff is not cheap. Any info. on this type of wire for the MIG process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Andy
