Subject: Welding 304 Stainless Sheet

We are manufacturers of decorative stainless steel entry doors and frames made from sheet stainless of 18 ga and 16 ga. We currently weld our joints (butt and fillet) on the face or visible side which requires grinding and then polishing to achieve the original mill finish (#4 to #8). Are there methods that would allow us to weld on the backside (non-visible side) without burn-through such that all we need to do is a quick acid wash and polish to achieve the original mill finish?

Thank you. - Wendell Haney, Next Door Co., Miami, FL
