Before taking the IQ tests, I sat and thought about what theses tests actually mean to me. When I think of such measures, I usually visualize simple math problems, and the basic knowledge of everyday life being formed into questions. I have never taken and IQ test, so this was a new experience for me. I am also not a good test taker which also makes me feel a little uneasy about my scores in general.
When taking all three test, I found myself frustrated. The questions seemed easy as first, and then I suddenly found myself not knowing what many of the words even meant. This was especially the case in the first IQ test that contained many antonyms and synonym questions. By the middle of each test, I just wanted to hurry up and finish the questions because I didn't know a lot of the material. The cultural IQ test with different color shapes and sizes was the most interesting to me. I never thought of an IQ test being represented in the form of patterns. My favorite test was the emotional IQ test because it deals with more of my area of study, counseling. However, I did not having to rate my answers with words such as most often.
I do not think these tests were very accurate in my IQ. Some of the material presented in questions is not used in everyday life. I think questions should be based on a more realistic vocabulary and base of knowledge. The results only confirmed to me that I am not a good test taker, and that I get very antsy when is comes to standardized test. I do however think the emotional IQ has some relevance, because it really makes you think about personal, applicable situations, such as being distressed or uneasy. Overall, I am not a fan of IQ tests because they make me feel less capable than I really am concerning heavy knowledge that is hidden away in the brain or never learned at all.
