For a disclaimer: I disagree with a lot of what Aeanagwen says. Hell, when she first came here, we argued Fuuma's true nature until the cows came home and I remembered thinking, Wow, this chick is disillusioned, or something like that. But I liked that she had opinions, was willing to voice her opinions, and be passionate about it. Even when she told me I was wrong, other than getting miffed that someone told me I was wrong (I hate being told I'm wrong), she was never nasty or mean to me.
I seriously doubt she writes rants and essays because she's some second rated author that's bitter she's not the next great CLAMP fanficker writer. She probably writes rants and essays for the same reason I do so: she's gets annoyed and has to voice her annoyances. I do it all the time. Something sets me off, I get pissed, and something without thinking, I go ahead and explode stuff to the next solar system, while other times, I'm actually able to sit down and write a nice coherent rant talking about what drives me crazy. Hopefully, I do more of the latter, but none the less, I'm not doing it because I want people to notice me. If I wanted people to notice me, I'd write fanfic that I know people will read and love.
I do want people to notice what I'm saying, to see what annoys me, and yes, find people who agree with me. Occasionally, when I'm being mature, I'll also be in the mind to see what people who disagree with me says and I'll note those and apologize if I'm wrong. I have apologized before. Actually, I've done it quite often.
Aeanagwen is more set in her ways than I am, which I think is great, and she's certainly entitled to be as staunch as she wants. While I do think she occasionally crosses the line into bashing, for the most part, she keeps her comments about the trends and ideas she disagrees with, not with people. Besides, a lot of us has pass that line into bashing. I know I have-- downright flaming and bitching and head-ripping I have done. Which is not to say I condone it, but I don't think anyone should be labelled a troll or flamer because a couple of times they slipped -- especially since so many of us do the same.
