I've been thinking about this for quite a while and came to the conclusion that your idea (although a cute one!) is not likely to be Clamp's intention. I've flicked through the manga and found out that many profiles of different charas look similar. Not only the two mentioned.
BTW, I would prefer Clamp to have that "problem". It is true that the chara design is mostly different for all the charas in one serial but it changes so rapidly. I liked Kamuis looks in the first volumes a lot better than the one he has now. It's like drinking a youth potion... I wish their drawing style would remain the same within a certain serial. X is running too long already... I know... Still, I do not like such changes. So, Clamp, please get yourself that problem and start drawing X again! It's about time you do it!
