... so says my roommate about Yami.
Some of you people hate Yami just because people are comparing it to TB/X and you haven't even read/watched it?
X will always be my first and favorite love, but Yami is a very close second BECAUSE they are slightly similar. Yami isn't about the end of the world. Yami isn't about fate. Yami isn't about 14 dragons who fight for the sake of the world.
The similiarites between Muraki and Seishirou end at the fact that he put marks on Hisoka under a sakura tree. Everyone here seems to be forgetting that Muraki CARVED marks all over Hisoka's body with a knife (Seishirou only kissed Subaru's hands and left magical marks!), raped him and then cursed him into a long, agonizing death. Yeah, Muraki licks blood. So do many other anime/manga villains (including Nakago from Fushigi Yuugi, among others).
As I mentioned in another post, the whole X scar thing is only for two episodes of the anime. And symbolically, it represents a perverted cross.
And Subaru and Seishirou DO NOT have a monopoly on fuda magic. Paper spells occur in many other anime and manga, including such ones as Bakuretsu Hunters.
And don't even bring up the shikigami. These occur in other anime and manga as well, as do things like tsukai-ma. Yes, the shikigami are named after the four Chinese gods, but don't even THINK that it's ripping off Fushigi Yuugi at this point (not saying anyone has, I'm just making a preemptive strike), as the Chinese gods appear in other anime and manga (such as Tenshi no Shippo and its sequal, Saint Beast). And the way shikigami are portrayed in later arcs of the manga are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from how they seem to be portrayed in TB/X (they exist in a computerized world. Oh no! It's ripping off Digimon! XP Just kidding. They live there because there was no more room for them in the human world).
The two series are in a similiar genre, but there are too many differences for Yami to be a rip-off of X. The fans of both series enjoy joking about the similarites, to be sure, but this is the first time I've ever seen people get indignant over it. Wow. Step back and chill out. And do a little research on Yami if you are an X fan. Who knows? It might be a nice suppliment to your X fandom. ^.^
And don't even make me point out how much crap CLAMP has ripped off, as other people are already doing. ^.^
