I come from a small hood. We currently have 18 households, including the ones at university and downtown. Not including those households we have about 12 households in the main neighborhood.

Our neighborhood is a little bit backwards. We don't have as much administration as some other hoods do and we don't have the business deal, because, as it was explained to me, we would have to have a major upgrade on our infastructure before that would be possible.

Our housing is generally organized by family groups. Sims who move into their own places usually build next to or close to their parents or other family members and most houses are kept the same (aside from some remodeling or additions) from one generation to the next.

We only have two community lots in the main hood. We would like to have more, but the ones that we do have are underutilized. The downtown lots are rarely used unless someone is specifically invited on an outing, usually by a member of the downtown committee. So while we think adding more community lots would be good as an addition to our neighborhood, we aren't sure they'll be used often enough to do so.

We recently added a urban housing area to the main neighborhood as an alternate to downtown living. Our downtown only housed actors who weren't on the local unified time zone and weren't subject to regular aging. The move was due in part to these celebrities starting families (it didn't seem fair to children who attend the same school system to be off of the unified time zone) and to providing a prettier landscape than the standard downtown region. When building this area we tried to play off the natural beauty of the area by planting trees and wildflowers in what used to be a barren field. So far, the majority of sims in the neighborhood seem pleased with the new region, so I would say that it is a success.

I have heard that one of our sister hoods is planning a renovation to group businesses, commercial lots, upper class housing, and middle class housing into their own areas. But that hood is more of a studio lot than a regular neighborhood.
