Well, I am getting pissy. I tend to get pissy when people armed with a minimal amount of knowledge on a particular subject, but gifted with an impressive vocabulary, condemn everything that doesn't fit their personal agenda. S.O.S is an absolutely credible option but it's just that...an option. And if it works for some, great! AA has the highest success rate of any recovery program. Do people relapse? Sure. Often more than once. But once they accept that alcohol is a toxic substance for them and they are powerless over it, not themselves, miracles can happen and have. I'm not arguing theology. I spent 13 years in university studying the sciences. I don't give a very good massage, but I'm one hell of a doctor and you are entirely out of your realm here. Alcoholism is every bit as deadly a *disease* as diabetes or cancer. How about cirrhosis of the liver? Or steatosis? Are they not phyiscal disorders? Is it all in the patient's head? Mind over matter? Ridiculous! You cannot so easily characterize an illness as strictly psychological. This is not the 1800's. We don't throw people suffering from clinical depression, for example, into a padded cell. Because it is a very real, very physical condition caused by a chemical imbalance. Try to dispute that. By the same token, people suffering from addiction, whatever the substance, have receptors in their brains that you and I do not. It may be triggered by emotional upheavel but as the disease progresses, it becomes quite physical. The shakes, cold and hot sweats, hallucinations, muscle aches. All very real and very physical. Someone trying to quit "cold turkey" runs a great risk in terms of seizures. You simply are not informed on this topic. So stick to what you know. Cross addiction is common and deadly. You seem to be well versed in the entertainment industry so consider Jon Belushi, River Pheonix, Johnny Cash and the list goes on and on as you know. I'd expect these flimsy arguments from a parasite like Zack. But I thought you'd bring more to the table. I have work to do. But consider keeping an open mind.
