Tony, you are not hearing me. We are not talking about cancer here. I never, ever said not to accept that something is unmanageable. I would never say that acceptance is not an important step - particularily for a real disease like cancer. The 5% statistic of success is from AA's own 1989 internal survey (they don't publish annual statistics) which also said that about half (might have been less than half) complete the "treatment". Funny that I got that from the "Vegas comedian's" show where they don't give their own opinions, they investigate potential "bullshit".

I honestly don't want to be pissy with you; you seem like a guy who really cares about patients and how they are treated. My point, my core point here, is that AA is, at it's heart, a religious organization. If that works for you, great! But it's not the only way - other places like S.O.S. - the Secular Organization for Sobriety (http://www.secularsobriety.org/) is another that doesn't require you to be "powerless" against your choices. Alcoholism is not a disease like cancer. It's a psychological problem that needs treatment and help, but not from god.

P.S. - I wouldn't want to be consulted for diabedes. If someone came to me, I'd refer to a qualified M.D.
