Well guess you told me! Dave, I actually remember you from the Buskers broadcast and as I recall we had a conversation about this. But if you were around when Jake was on, it's entirely possible you've done as much damage to your short term memory as I have. BTW, he's still running wild, I believe in Vancouver, but I could be wrong.

First of all, you're quite right. That was hardly a scathing missive that would leave any permanent scars. In fact that's probably the most complimentary hate letter I've ever gotten.

For the record, I don't hate Canada. Far from it. I'm a mouthy beyatch, who we kiddin' so I'm sure sometimes it may seem like that. I love Canada and I love the people and I'm glad I grew up on beautiful lake Mic Mac, still the most peaceful place I know. What I hate is the absolute chasm between what listeners want as opposed to what they're fed. I couldn't agree with you more. I loved the edgy, defiant, no holes barred original Q104. And I wish it were still that way. But the government needs to piss off. The CRTC is ridiculous. There are at least 78 radio stations in NYC. Let's be honest. There are essentially 6 here and 4 of them are in the same building. That's bullshit. Utter and complete bullshit. There's a 'code of ethics' book that Tolstoy wouldn't have had time to write. I can tell you, there is a tremendous amount of talent and creativity lurking in the infamous Pink Palace. And JC Douglas is one of the most dynamic programmers I know. And a treasured friend. But there's only so much room to maneuver around the oppressive thumb of the CRTC. Don't get me wrong, the FCC is getting just as bad. I hate to disappoint you my friend but it's all smoke and mirrors. With the exception of Tom's Requesta Fiesta, there's a computer that decides how many times you're going to hear Bob Seger today. And when you heard me on the air for 12 hour stretches at a time , that's the devil known as voice-tracking. You mentioned the morning show, both in your post and as I recall at the Buskers festival. BJ is actually one of the funniest people I know. Ditto for Tom. And Lisa is extraordinarily witty. But you have to play the game. Let them out of the cage and watch what happens. And to JC's credit he does push the envelope. But it's not a very big envelope and that's the problem. Don't even get me started on Canadian content. I was almost beheaded for dropping a Triumph song. And the earth will open up and swallow you whole if you fuck with Chilliwack. Make no mistake. So to summarize, it's not Canada I hate, it's the establishment. Frankly, I wouldn't be able to get away with half the shit I pulled in New York now. But satellite radio is going to change that. I believe that. And in my defense, I spent most of my adult life in America getting paid silly amounts of money to indulge my passion to mock, and in two of the most beautiful exciting cities in the world. And it became home. There's a lot of American in me. I have a great deal of respect for Q and the people there, but I was never a "dj", I was a morning personality who blathered on (much like this) and laughed myself stupid for four hours every morning. Of course I'm going to fall asleep during a 40 minute freeride. I'm an entertainer, or at least I delude myself into believing I am, I was not put on this earth to babysit Nickleback.

One more thing (ok 2), the team I'm taking back across the border with me is 100 percent Canadian and the funniest, most creative dynamic men I have encountered in 18 years of radio on both sides of the border. My humor is innately Nova Scotian. I'm quite frankly the least funny person in my family or inner circle of friends. And it's those uniquely Canadian sensibilities that took me to NY and SF. Plus, I've got a green card burning a hole in my pocket and 70 and sunny everyday doesn't suck. I hope that clears some stuff up for you and I am not the least bit offended. I hope I made you giggle occasionally.
