Subject: My basement is haunted ..

I just read through your definitions of a haunting but couldn't find one that refers to the type of haunting my husband and I are currently dealing with.
We just bought our house. We moved into it 2 months ago and some wierd crap has been going on in the basement since. This house was built in 1910 so its fairly old. It sat vacant for over a year before we purchased it, the previous owners couldn't find a buyer or even anyone willing to rent it. Since we're new to the area we didn't know about that or why until now.
The basement is huge and its an unfinished one. It has an old large round in ground brick well that was filled in with concrete a long time ago in the floor..the top bricks are still visible. Don't know if that has anything to do with the haunting or not.
When we first moved in, we'd been in and out of the basement several times inspecting the plumbing (which is also visible) and there was nothing unusual at first..cuz there wasn't anything down there other than a furnace, hot water heater, and that's it. The only access to the basement is through the inside of the house.
Two weeks ago we went down there again because we're preparing plans to build an addition onto the house and what we saw scared the living shit (pardon the french) out of us!!!!!!!!!
All over the floor, everywhere you look, there are old, dirty, but brightly colored baseball size plastic balls in red, blue, green, yellow, and orange scattered around!!!!!
There's about 2 dozen of them!! They look like something a child would play with (toy) and like a child had been doing exactly that........scary part, WE DON'T HAVE ANY KIDS!!
NO ONE has been in this house since we moved here and those balls were not there when we moved in!! I videotaped the balls but have not picked them up or moved them in any way and haven't been back down into the basement since...they're still down there.
Loud, strange noises have also been heard coming from the basement by myself and our dog. Our dog refuses to go near the basement door in the house, and has been acting very skittish since we moved here.
So what do you call a situation where several objects materialize out of nowhere??! Should I leave the balls down there or should I pick them up and throw them away?? Can a priest actually "cleanse" the home of any ghosts from someone's home?? And most importantly, what I do if something wierd like this happens again??
