Sorry I can't advise on this - but if Doc hasn't got his bank, credit card info or any financial transactions in his computer, then there should be no problem for him. You are right though about everyone on Doc's email listing being at risk.
During the past 4 hours, I contacted McAfee (24 hours online) which is my Security Centre for my computer and we installed all the latest Windows 8 updates, then uninstalled my present Security Centre (for anti-virus, spyware, anti-phishing, etc) and reinstalled the latest Security Centre.
This took 3 3/4 hours from 10:05pm till 1:45am.
We did detect spyware hidden in the incoming email tray - but the Security stopped the spyware from entering the system.
However, after receiving and getting replies of emails from the Doc (who wasn't sending them), I was alarmed enough to redo & debug my whole security system all over again.
It took a few hours, but it will be worth it.
My advice still is to avoid using yahoo, hotmail and public domain email hosting sites.
The whole bloody lot has been compromised.
If Yahoo was doing their jobs properly, a hacker should not be able to hijack and commandeer someone ele's email account.
My god - they were controlling the Doc's emails and replies which eventually flowed through to him.
This sends shivers down my back.
Apeks.......go subscribe to a good security system for your computer!! The freeware is NOT adequate against spyware and phishing (extraction of info from your files including knowing your keystrokes to learn what you are typing).
These hackers and fraudsters are getting too smart.
