Hi Captain,

A very nice and complimentary article by Louisa Lim with you being the star of it.
The factors on the 'fear of flying' are well explained and I gather that anyone reading it will feel relieved that an Airline Captain feels that flying on a plane is quite safe.

OR IS IT?

Statistically the article claims "That more people die in three months of traffic accidents than in 40 years of commercial flight".
However, it omits the fact that there are millions upon millions of cars in those 3 months and probably only thousands of flights if you compare the same 3 months in commercial flights. Perhaps there may be a few million flights in 40 years - but certainly not as many cars (even in the 3 months).

So, selective statistical sampling is great for making a point......but certainly not conclusive towards the arguement.
How about the view that more people will die in a single major air crash than in a single major car accident?
Now, that's comparing apples with apples rather than apples with the pips! Ha-ha-ha!

OK, this is only me being the Devil's Advocate.
Don't take me too seriously - I am frustrated over Yoke Seng's passing away and I thought I will throw in a challenge on "the fear of flying".

Nevertheless, congratulations on doing such a magnificient job of placating air passengers via your many articles, blog and reported interviews. This is evidence that a passionate hobby can turn out to be so satisfying and maybe even 'lucrative' later on?

Ray
