Bright Lights, Big City

It may be mid-afternoon in the states, but in the land of the rising sun, that sun has now set and Tokyo’s wild night-life has begun. The scene is set at a busy intersection, cars honking, people walking briskly up and down the sidewalks, and bright neon lights everywhere, illuminating the streets as if it was day. Darrin Chaos stands on a corner, wearing baggy, ripped, white pants and a dark red leather trench coat that some may remember from his days as The Cyclone in ECW. The usual pretentious smirk is plastered across his face, but it seems unusually forced. There are also large dark circles underneath his eyes, giving the impression that he hasn’t slept in days.

Darrin Chaos: Tokyo, Japan. This shining, futuristic city of amazing technology and overly graphic pornography, the next stop on the CWF’s global tour. The most populous metropolis on the planet, the city that never actually does sleep. Everybody always seems to be in a hurry, everybody always seems to have something important to do. This is the place where everybody is a stranger, and that suits everybody just fine.

Suddenly, the viewer finds themselves in a dark alley, garbage of all kinds lying everywhere, a ragged-looking Japanese man passed out drunk, the half-empty bottle of liquor gripped tightly in one hand. Darrin Chaos stands once again in the center of the shot, smirking as if he knows something that nobody else does.

Darrin Chaos: However, the fact that many people fail to realize is that there are those that this advanced world of computers and technology does leave behind. It’s not just the rest of the world; Japan has whores and lowlifes too. That’s the choice these days, no matter who you are or where you live. You gotta run with the pack or get left behind.

The scene changes again, now cutting to the interior of a popular Tokyo dance club. Darrin Chaos is dead center again, sitting at the club’s bar, this time his trench coat is slung over the back of his chair and he is wearing a Glassjaw T-shirt. Also, every trace of his usual smirk is gone completely.

Darrin Chaos: I already made my choice, as did Meyer Dillinger, JB Shooter, and evidently Drew Carrig and Mike Manson. However, there’s a difference between us. You see, Meyer, JB, and myself? We made the right decision. We made the decision that is the most profitable for us, and the most beneficial to the company. Mike Manson and Drew Carrig have decided to be too closed-minded, arrogant, and proud to even take into account what is best for them. The scary thing is that there are those who find this to be an admirable decision. Since when did fools become idols? Since when did folly become something to aspire to? They were given a simple decision. They could either be with us, or against us. They chose wrong, plain and simple. There was one obvious logical decision, and they ran the other direction just to spite Ben Stevens. Well Mike Manson, Drew Carrig, the joke’s on you. How much do you really think you mean to Stevens? He could squash you like bugs at any time, and he is perfectly aware of that, yet you two still fail to get it through your thick skulls. Oh well, it doesn’t matter anymore. What’s done is done, and now all that’s left is your punishment. Drew, Wednesday night, you will put your World Title on the line against either JB Shooter, Meyer Dillinger, or yours truly, Darrin Chaos, and believe me, it doesn’t matter which one of us you do step into the ring with, you will not leave Glory the champion.

The bartender walks up and puts a dark green bottle with a black label covered in Japanese figures on the bar in front of Darrin before walking away. Darrin takes a sip, then makes a face and puts the bottle back down.

Darrin Chaos: Ugh, bitter. Listen, I know what your thinking, and you can fuck off because I don’t care. So maybe I am still only a teenager, but only until next week, and you know, it doesn’t matter how old you are, sometimes you just gotta have a beer.

Darrin takes another swig of his beer, grimacing again as he puts it down.

Darrin Chaos: Ah Christ. But I think that the worst part about this city is the total lack of anywhere quiet to just think. I’ve had a lot to consider over the past few weeks, and a lot of time, I haven’t slept very well ever since… well, never mind. But this city has no place to avoid the deafening noise and bright lights of which Tokyo has an abundance. Everything here seems to be made to distract, and it gets extremely difficult to keep one’s mind under control. It seems whenever I start to regain my focus, my senses are invaded by another neon sign, another blaring car horn, another loud pedestrian… oh well. I only have to stay until Wednesday, and after that I don’t plan on coming back any time soon. Fuck it. Fuck Tokyo!

The last two words are screamed, and everybody in the room turns and stares to see what all the noise is about. Darrin ignores them all completely and stands up, pulling a crumpled 100-yen note from his pocket and leaving it on the bar along with his half-empty beverage, then walks out of the club into the smoky night air.
