I need some advice if anyone has already gone through this particular situation. My daughter has been using for several years, she has a daughter and has not seen her since she was little less than a year old, I have been raising her. I had to go to the Human and Health resources to get medicaid so the baby would be covered on medicaid being my job does not have insurance. Now, the child is nearly 3, she went to her first dental appt. this week, and I let her stay on the bottle to long (she lost her mother, she was very attached to the bottle and I didnt have the heart to take away her only comfort), anyway, she is going to have to have her dental work done in a hospital, where they put her under being she is so young, they will take care of the decay, then put caps on her teeth. Now the problem is the hospital is giving me a hard time being able to sign permission since I do not have "legal custody". I, at the time cannot afford the cost to get things done legal, and the mother, last time I heard from her which has been about 2 yrs. told me I could have to baby to raise, she has no means to support as long as she is a user. It seems if the state lets me carry medicaid for her, I should be able to sign for the surgery, I am the only next of kin she has other than my parents, her great grandparents. Has anyone been through this, if so what are my options. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am fighting it out with the hospital, and they are suppose to let me know something next week, but if they dont let me, what can I do, I have no way to contact the mother, she was in jail, but got out in March, and has made no attempt to contact me. Please, if anyone has been through this type of thing, let me know what I can do.
