Heroin is a morphine derivative and morphine is opium’s most potent active ingredient. So heroin is basically a copy or a generic morphine, so they are basically the same thing.

In my opinion, Opium aka heroin/morphine is the most addictive drug mentally and physically. Your brain has the compulsion to use it like most drugs but your body basically needs it after you are hooked. This is why they invented Methadone. Methadone patch is used to help the withdraw effects from quitting Heroin/Morphine. Ironically Heroin was originally invented to help addicts withdraw from Morphine.

So right now your friend has developed a physical addiction. (His headaches) he will get very bad ones unless he gets a pain killer for them. The drug is also a constipate but the body adapts and the addict will have regular bowl movements in time. So when withdrawing the user will shit their brains out like they have dysentery or something. It also shrinks the mussels in the body so when withdrawing every mussel in your body could cramp up while they come back to life, including the heart. Imagine the pain; this is why for the junkie it is nearly imposable to quit cold turkey. The up side is that heroin is probable the best drug for the brain. Most addicts or ex-addicts keep their common since and intelligents. Info for you below. Good Luck.
