Hi everyone. It's been awhile, but I wanted to let you know that my daughter is slowly coming back. I don't think she is 100% clean, but she is doing well. She has gained most of the weight back and looks great. She may have a job and while it isn't her chosen profession, it does pay more than min. wage, Since she has no car or license, I will have to drive her to and from work everyday. Not what I would like to be doing, but I'll help as long as she is trying.
She is taking a big risk with her future, and I would like to share it with you. She was offered a plea bargin on felony forgery charges for stealing one of my checks and two credit cards.(along with three other addicts) The plea bargin gives her 2 yrs with 90 days to serve in the county jail and the rest supervised probation, and a 1,000 fine.
Last week, thanks be to God, they decided to open up Drug Court to ppl with non drug charges stemming from drug use. The DA said he will recomend my daughter for drug court. Her lawyer tried every way he could to talk her out of it. His reason is that she could very well be trading 90 days for 5 years. Should she be accepted, and there is no guarentee she will be, from what I understand it is a process of 6 steps with several interviews.(which won't even start till her court date in Sept!) He read us the guidlines and what would be expected should she get in. It very hard. She could be kicked out for getting a ticket for littering! If she were to be kicked out of the program she would have to serve the max. for the felony forgery charge....which is 5 yrs. But, if she successfuly completes the program, all charges will be dropped and everything wiped from her record. Honestly, the only area I can see her having trouble with(based on watching her) will be to not communicate with inmates or felons. She is still writing to ppl in jail and talking to them on the phone when they can get phone cards. This would have to stop. I don't know what the future holds, but she told the lawyer she wants to apply. We will stand behind her all the way. AS long as she is doing her part.
Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to share and to ask for your prayers. I am praying so hard that she make it into this program, and that the Lord will give her the strength and the will to make it through. I have a feeling that should she do this, she will come out a better person than even before the drug use began.
Thanks for being here.
Hugs, Bren
