I've had similar experiences to this when I was about 20 (I'm 50 now)..I know how terrifying it can be. When I used to get it..awakening after dozing off..I used to hear music and words and always the same..and terrors that lasted for hours accompanied by an intense guilt. It always wears off..even if you don't feel it will....problems with bowels and breathing and the incredible weakness and shaking and pallor also.very much like shock.
Many times I couldn't remember who I was and felt totally disconnected from my "normal" world and life. Over the years it lessened..We do tend to bury an enormous amount of worry and shrug off things in modern life...and I think..it's like blowing a fuse..I think it's best not to try to control it to much..It runs it's own course. It has it's own beginning middle and (Thankfully) end.
