wow, your story really intrigues me!! i completely believe that both good and bad spirits exist.. so my thought is that your mothers cousin is watching over you. a unwelcome spirit may have entered your home with negative intensions, and your mothers cousin wouldn't have it... i have also experienced the smell of death before when i encountered a unpleasant sense of a spirit. so i completely know what your talking about.
