Subject: Infinity symbol

I recently read a story involving a ouija borad, in which the spirit (or at least the planchette) starting drawing an infinity symbol over and over again. The people involved knew that this meant that the spirit was drawing energy from one of those involved - is this true? Is it specifically an infinity symbol that will be being drawn. Is is also true that you can open a 'door' from the otherside to any non-living entity; if so, what can be done to sent it back? (don't worry; I'm only interested in this as a story idea!)
