Subject: Is my house haunted?

Okay, for starters I'm in New Zealand. I can't find any local website for me to post on so I hope you don't mind my being here.
I bought this house about four years ago - it's one of the oldest in my suburb - and anyway, here's a quick rundown of things that have happened.
1: for the first few months, I would return home and find the front door had been blown wide open. I had double-checked to make sure it was locked on each of these occassions.
2: the tap in the bathroom would keep turning itself on several times a day. I'm no handyman but I know what a leaking washer is.
3: bad smells emanating from different points in the house.
With the exception of the front door, these have occurred on a regular basis however, lately things seemed to have escalated.
I woke up three nights in a row with the feeling that I was being watched. On each occassion, once my eyes had adjusted to the darkness, I had seen a dark shadow outside my bedroom door. On the first night this occurred, I chalked it up to being a dream. However, since it repeated itself the following two nights at roughly the same time it all seems to mesh with the other happenings.
I cautiously approached my daughter after the third night to see how well she had been sleeping and she told me that she has been hearing furniture in the living room being moved around late at night (something which I haven't heard).
On going to bed a few nights ago, I told the ghost to get the hell out of my house and haven't been disturbed since.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed because if this is only a temporary respite then hell knows what I do next.
