Bless you Amar Dev
I can sympathise with you in realising that Jesus Himself, and Love, is more important than organised religeon. In a way though, in saying that you can free yourself with love and ethics, is in itself another human religeon. You will not be able to free yourself, even though your desire is good. Nothing can free you, not in the whole universe, except the Blood that Jesus shed for you on the Cross. He chose to provide your salvation, by undergoing death for you and bearing your sin away. Nothing you can do can achieve your salvation, or the perfection of Love. If it had not been necessary for Jesus to suffer so much - why would He have chosen such a path? But He knew there was no way you could do it yourself. However, I think He Himself will show you this - ask Him to talk to you about the Cross.
Let me give you a bit of my own story. I am 51 now, but when I was 25 years old, Jesus delivered me from satanic power in a very miraculous way. I did not ask Him to do this! He then filled me with the Holy Spirit - which I also did not ask Him to do! Before that, I had been struggling a lot with church rules and regulations, as I had given my heart to Him 12 years before that. Then when He filled me with the Holy Spirit, I read the book of Deuteronomy from the Torah, and I was set on fire by these wonderful words of the true Law! I did not know at the time, that the Holy Spirit was first poured out on Jesus followers, at the festival of the giving of the Law! But the Holy Spirit is given to us, firstly to teach us more about Jesus, but also to "write G-d's laws on our hearts, so that the righteousness of the law becomes part of us. I think you may be quite impatiant, and read one bit you don't like, and decide the whole lot is horrible! The Old Testament (although I used to feel the same way as you before G-d began to interpret it correctly to me) is about the wonderful and faithful love of our Heavenly Father, and the power of His Word (which is Jesus). It is the love story between Jesus and Israel. It contains all the wonderful promises, which G-d has caused to be written down for the record, about how He will save Israel, how He will never fail to love them, and how their future is assured, and will be full of everlasting joy. It tells them about their destiny which is to be the Light of the Nations. After all they have been through - and still have to go through, how would they know, without the Old Testament.
I think you need to give the Holy Spirit a chance to open up some of the wonders of both the old and new testaments - satan will be trying his best to lead you away from the truth, and the bible contains the weapons you need, but He has to show you how to use them. Jesus offends EVERYBODY at some stage, not just the Rabbis, and we have to put Truth before our own ideas!
By the way - there are quite a lot of Rabbis who love Jesus. I have even heard of one strictly orthodox Jew in Jerusalem who loves Jesus! Also we must realise that a lot of Jews who cannot stand the thought of Jesus, feel that way solely because of what Christians have done to them for the last 2000 years - we are supposed to represent Jesus, and we have killed, betrayed and tortured the Jews - His beloved People, so some understanding of Jewish feelings is necessary here.

Love

Vivian
