Subject: Clavelle and Rivers' flawed campaigns

Well, when a Democratic candidate for Governor gets less votes then George W. Bush in a state as liberal as Vermont, things have to be discussed.

What happened?

I'll give you my opinion. He pissed off a lot of conservative and moderate Dems with jumping ship and running as Dem, when he has been a Prog all of his public life. Plus, Douglas was going to win re-election in a walk and no one really cared.

It is really disturbing. The state Dems need to do a lot of soul searching about how they are shifting so far to left. I want to be a Democract not a Progressive!

I didn't vote for Clavelle or Rivers because they were both way outside the mainstream.

I voted for Douglas and Dubie. I voted fo Jan Backus in the primary but thats because I know that she could win and be an effective LG.

Rivers though, what a horrible campaign. SHe spent all of her money, she tried to demonize "niceguy Dubie" which is impossible and she was essentially a Prog when the race was over. She ignored the moderate/conservative dem and indpendents. a huge majority of them went to Dubie, and if you don't believe it look at the results. Dubie could not win without Dem support....

The Dems need to stop drifting so far to the left and get some moderate, Howard Dean democrats back in there.

Look for Shumlin to run for Governor in 2006. Now, the Dems can get their heart and soul back!! I can't wait because I bet you guys anything -- DOuglas will run for US Senate in 2006 if Jeffords opts out.

And listen, Jeffords said he was running because he wanted the money to keep coming in. That's the only reason. I saw Jeffords in DC only 2 months ago and the guy looked horrible. He looks feeble and just not very healthy looking.

The Dems need to search for themselves again and stop with this Progressive fusion. It didn't work as we saw, its time to look for good Democrats who are actually Democrats.
