The fact is that many of the liberals in the Vermont legislature currently and over the years were born and raised right here in the Green Mountains. Many of the the more conservative folks have moved to Vermont from the flatlands. To suggest that the liberals have moved into Vermont and taken over is simply not based in fact. When Hoff was elected Governor the great influx of new Vermonters had not really begun. Hoff was certainly the first high energy liberal. But remember it was Governor Dean Davis, certainly not a liberal, who created Act 250 a law that some would say personifies the liberal movement in Vermont.

Vermont has a long liberal tradition that begins with the outlawing of slavery in the Vermont Constitiution, continues with the first state to let non-landowners vote and so on. Vermonters care for each other, protect each other and ensure that all individuals have the same rights. This is what makes Vermont different from NH and a vast number of other places.
