Ray, there is much about Paul in the literature. One of these authors is Hyam Maccoby, and two of his books are:
1) The Mythmaker. Paul and the invention of Christianity (1986)
2) Paul and Hellenism (1991)
..... I think also Graham Phillips wrote about the background of Paul in his book "The Marian Conspiracy ..." (2000)

As I understand it, quoting from memory, after Jesus had been crucified by the Romans there was a meeting of Paul with the leaders of the Jerusalem church, and they decided then and there that non-Jews could become Christians without having to conform to the laws of the Jews, provided they obey all of the Noahide laws as a minimum. It seems that what Paul wrote about that meeting is NOT the same as what the author of Acts wrote in Acts about that same meeting. Anyway, it's probably not important in 2003, nor beyond.
