I do the pillow case with plush rattles and other toys. Gentle wash cycle, then tumble dry low or no heat--in pillow case. Like Sara, I worry about mold, so I do an extra long dry cycle on low or no heat. Works like a gem, smells good too! ;-)
Babyfood--I never really pureed my own, but here are a list of easy, nutritous baby foods I depend on, especially if your little one can mash food with gums/teeth--some of these are probably okay for you to try now, but others save for when she's older (sometimes I keep a list on my fridge for a quick reference guide of ideas):
Low, or No-Salt-Added canned veggies (packed at the peak of freshness, they have good nutrients and are soft and ready to eat, and beans are a good source of protein):
-canned beans (white beans, black beans, great white northern, lima beans, red kidney beans, pinto beans, etc.)
-peas
-green beans (great finger food)
-carrots (already soft, but great color and nutrients)
-other veggies you might think are gross, but your little one might like (canned asparagus spears, pearl potatos, etc.)
Some canned fruits in 100% fruit juice (not syrup)--but I don't do this very often. Roo has a problem with texture.
-whole grain crackers (I like the Kashi brand, whole grains, low sugar and salt)
-cheerios! duh ;-)
-raisins (need teeth)
-apple slices with skin peeled off for teething babies that need to chew on something--keep close watch (frozen grapes work well too, but obviously you keep a grip on the grape while baby gnaws and drools)
-apple sauce (no sugar added)
-organic full-fat yogurt, plain or maple or vanilla (I fed a LOT of yogurt to Roo--I felt it was a great source of calories, calcium, protein, and all those good bacteria for digestion)
-shredded cheese for little ones, cubes for older ones
-tortillas (need teeth)
-All-Bran Bran Buds with milk, let soak and get soggy (nuke in the microwave for 15 seconds to speed up soggy)--a GREAT source of fiber for little ones, you only need about 1/8 of a cup (this helps with BMs too)
-whole grain pasta bow ties (need teeth)(boil a bunch and then freeze in snack bags, for a quick meal just microwave)
-homemade whole-wheat pancakes (need teeth, so easy & nutritious--see recipe below)
-couscous
-scrambled eggs, hard boiled for older kids w/teeth
-quartered grapes (NEED TEETH!!!)
-Ruby loves melons (all kinds)
-grahm crackers
-shredded carrots (if I had a blender I would puree for little ones)
-100% fruit juice very diluted w/water (super diluted, like a quarter inch of juice in a sippy cup, rest water) and sometimes I add a few drops of multi-vitamin if I feel like Roo hasn't had very many fruits or green veggies
I try to stay away from cookies and crackers that are very artificially colored (like the gold fish rainbow colors) and that are mostly made with corn syrup and white flour.
This all probably seems obvious to you, and doesn't really answer your question about Homemade Baby Food. But when you're ready to try more finger foods, I hope this gives you some good ideas! I'm all about whole foods that are easy and nutritious.
Here is my recipe: I love this because it is easy and quick, it makes the best pancakes, and it is satisfying (you don't get hungry an hour later because the whole wheat really fills you up), and because I think it is a great food that kids love and is guilt free. I make a big batch and then freeze some. Stick them in the micro or toaster for a quick meal or snack. I NEVER let Roo have syrup--she's never had it, so she doesn't know what she's missing, and she seems fine with that. I also like this recipe because I always have the ingredients on hand (I keep the wheat in my freezer).

So Yummy Whole Wheat Pancakes
_____________________________
2 c. whole wheat flour
2 t baking pwd
1/2 t baking soda
1 t salt
2 T sugar
2 c. milk
2 eggs
-
2 T butter
Mix all ingredients except butter.
Melt 2 T butter in frying pan, and then pour butter into batter and mix well. Wipe frying pan with paper towel--do NOT use any non-stick spray. (Because batter has butter mixed in, your pancakes will turn out better if you DON'T use any oil or spray to grease your pan.)
Cook on medium heat.
I love to eat these with fresh strawberries and real maple syrup.
