HOW COOL that you got to attend last night!! I wish I could have been there. Ryan and I watched it on CSPAN. I thought the Bush girls were obnoxiously cheesy (whoever wrote their speech should be fired) and Laura Bush did a fantastic job talking about her husband as a real human being struggling with tough decisions about the future of our country. But I thought Arnold gave the top performance of the evening. Not only was it masterfully delivered (it looked like the crowd was going crazy!) but what he said was absolutely perfect. I think the very best part was when he talked about coming to this country in 1968 after experiencing the war with Nazis in Austria and all kinds of hardship. In 1968 the presidential election was between Nixon and Hubert Humphreys, and one evening Arnold was watching a debate with his friend translating for him. Arnold heard what Humphreys was talking about and told his friend "that sounds like the socialism I left in Austria." And then he heard what Nixon was saying and asked his friend what party Nixon belonged to. His friend told him Nixon was a republican and Arnold replied, "then I am a republican." The fact that Arnold used the word SOCIALISM to describe the Democrat ideology is so bold. And Arnold was the right person to say it because he came from a socialist system in Austria. Anyone else calling the Democrats socialists would be dismissed, but Arnold knows what he's talking about.

I don't agree with Arnold's positions on a lot of social issues, but when it comes to basic conservative principles he is right on the mark.

The rest of this campaign will be exciting to watch. I think Kerry is going down.
