Subject: Teaching is SCARY!!

I always knew teaching was hard--my not wanting to be one had nothing to do with thinking it would be too easy or dull. I have always had a great respect for good teachers. Now I have an even bigger one.

It's so hard it's scary. I feel so unprepared every day. Even when I have stuff prepared, I feel unprepared. I depend so much on class participation that when it doesn't happen I don't have enough other material to fill the time. I feel so inadequate every single day. It's one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life, and I've only done it SIX TIMES!

So, what do I do? How do I encourage participation? How do I overplan? How do I get more confident? I really feel discouraged right now because I hear the other new teachers talking about how great things are going, and how willing their students are to participate, and how their biggest problem is that they have so much material they run out of time in class. I feel like I am failing and not doing all I should or could be.

Sorry, guys, I just needed to vent to you. And ask for advice. Any and all advice and words of comfort, or alternately, words of Knock Off The Self Pity Because No One Likes It, will be extremely welcome. I love you guys, you always have good things to say.

On a completely different note, enjoy the holiday weekend!!
