I ditto everyone's advice. I would add:

A) don't be so hard on yourself...for goodness sakes, you are teaching a 7:30!!! In the morning or evening, you are going to have very tired students. That is a bad time to teach--so a lot of it has to do with the time, NOT YOU!

B) Students can sense your confidence, so act it--just like E and J said.

C) Plan your class by dividing it into short segments of lecture/discussion. I mean short, like every 15 minutes change to something new. This keeps the energy up.

D) DO BREAK INTO SONG AND DANCE! That would be awesome, and would get their attention.

E) Most of all...USE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR! I think it is one of your biggest assets in teaching. These kids are old enough to understand sarcasm, so use it. Be yourself. Don't try to be a teacher that you're not, it won't work. You just have to do things your way.

Trust yourself.

--On a side note, Joe is teaching Eng 115, and having the same struggles. I mean, he has said the EXACT same things that you have. So don't worry about it! ;-)
