Hey guys, many of you are aware of the event "Iron Guest" at ACen where two artists compete head-to-head with a theme and draw fervently for an hour. Well, this year will be the debut of Iron Guest AMV edition.
The premise is the same except the two competitors get two hours to make an ENTIRE Anime Music Video (this is obviously NOT easy). They will have a theme and a secret ingredient and it is not as boring as I am making it sound (i.e. just watching two people edit). There will be panel of guests and a host whose job it is to entertain the audience and joke around with you guys as you await the results. The event used to be an AWA (THE AMV con) only event, but this year Fanime and ACen will be getting it.
The BIG minus however is that it is scheduled during the masquerade. I know how popular this event is, but they want to have an event for those who do not attend that can draw a crowd. Unfortunately, it's this. Oh well.
Surprisingly, I have been chosen as the "challenger" and invite all of you who are interested or do not go to the Masquerade to come support your past JAC officer and Illini Alumni (ME :-P). Don't ask me why I was chosen, but ACen is generally known for it's lack of AMV support and also not that many creators are in the Midwest.
At AWA last year, it was Hsien Lee (Kusoyaro) vs. Joe Croasedaile (Maboroshi Studios) (an excellent battle) and at Fanime this year it will be my good friend Tim Park (Doki Doki Productions) against Justin Emerson (ErMaC). So...yeah...I'm nowhere near their level and can't promise anywhere near that level of excellence, but I'll try to do a decent job. I guess I'm becoming fairly well known (in the community), but I still think I'm mediocre :-P...I also definitely don't have their popularity :(
Apparently the contest coordinator (who is also the technical person for the AMV contest) saw my first entry for the contest I submitted and that "sealed" it for me...so somewhat off-topic, look for it at ACen. Trust me...you'll know it was mine just based on my first music video and my anime interests :-P.
(I sure am advertising a lot of my stuff today...sorry)
Here are the details I know of:
Iron Chef: Dan Milliken (Outlaw Productions) - has won awards at ACen three years in a row
Challenger: Daniel Chang (Ninja Gaijin Productions) - random n00b :-P
Theme: Robots (excellent choice)
Secret Ingredient: unknown (duh). I have a few guesses what it might be, but I don't wanna say since I'll jinx myself.
Yeah the theme is robots so that should definitely be fun. A lot better than what Tim and Justin got...guns.
Anyway...onto my second request...I have a couple weeks to narrow down the CD of music I can bring and choose from at the contest and would like suggestions. Nothing over two minutes (songs can be trimmed of course) and preferably something catchy (since it's easier to edit with..well edit quickly with). Also, something that COULD be used with the Robot theme.
I have already gotten an excellent suggestion with the DDR 4th Mix Song: B4U. I am looking for this sort of music. I also have Moonlight Shadow, Young Forever and Burnin' the Floor (all from DDR) on that list as well. Please post your suggestions. I get this next month to listen to the song, watch the sources and hopefully come up with a concept coming in. Obviously I can't do much since I don't know the secret ingredient, but I should at least come in knowing the songs and a concept. I will do my best to lyric sync like the fool that I am :-P.
Oops, almost forgot. Here is Hsiens' video from last year's AWA. It should give you a good idea of what I am looking for and hoping to create.

As you can see, he chose Neverending Story from DDR 5th mix and made an EXCELLENT video (esp. for two hours) which used the Dragon in Spirited Away very effectively. Their secret ingredient was "Secrets of Nimh."
In any case, your support (in both requests) would be nice. I figured I'd come here since you guys are my "local" group or whatever. I was also told to "pimp the hell" out of this since it needs a good audience for it to continue.
I guess since I am "pimping the hell" out of events...I should also "pimp" the panel I'm on (I was ordered by Sailor Death to do so :-P). Please attend the AMV workshop 5:30-7:30 Friday at ACen if you are AT all interested in starting to make AMVs. We'll be answering questions and more importantly...SHOWING you how to make AMVs. We PLAN on having computers setup and going step-by-step in the basics of setting up clips, editing, etc. If time permits, I can show you some basic effets like invert, strobing, radial blurs, "piano-keys," etc. Come by if you are at all interested in the creation of AMVs. I will be sure to leave you with enough to start laying down music and doing basic cuts and transitions (which is all you need...my first vid was that way).
As for vids, look for my two entries. Like I said, one will be blantaly obvious and the other is (currently) crap :-P.
Wish me luck and hope to see you at ACen. (I do apologize for this semi off-topic post and the blatant "pimping" of events).
-Daniel ^_^
