7.6 Installation of Pipe Work

a) All plumbing work shall be carried out by an approved licensed
plumber and by an approved licensed plumber and registered contractor in compliance with the requirements of the Water Authority and Building Authority. Approval and consent shall be obtained prior to commencement of any installation work.


b) All pipes shall run in wall, floor screeds or pipe ducts unless
Otherwise specified. Pipe and fittings exposed to view in bathroom and lavatories shall be chromium plated.


c) Pipework shall be carefully arranged to a neat and workmanlike
appearance in true alignment with a minimum number of crossovers.


d) Disconnecting flanged or screwed unions shall be provided at valves and fittings and at suitable locations for cleaning and removal of piping.


e) All pipework shall be free from burrs, rust, and scale and shall
be thoroughly cleaned before erection. Open ends during the progress of work shall be blanked-off with purpose-made metal or plastic caps and the use of wooden plugs is forbidden. Should any stoppage in the flow occur after the various systems have been put into operation, owing to non-compliance with



this requirement, the Sub-Contractor shall rectify the fault at his own expense.

f) Pipes are to be installed with correct falls for venting and
draining and attention must be paid to neatness of installation. Groups of pipes to be accurately spaced and valves, joints, etc. symmetrically arranged. Where two or more pipes are visible and change direction together, bends shall be struck from a common radius paint. Adequate clearances to be maintained in all cases to allow for the application of the insulation and finishing.

g) Suspended pipework must be positioned as close to slab soffits
as possible, unless shown Otherwise an the Drawings, whilst maintaining required falls.

h) All pipework likely to be in direct contact with concrete shall be coated with a bitumen compound and wrapped in polythene before being concealed.

i) Vertical stacks must be positioned as hard against to wall
columns and fins as possible.

j) Valves etc. should be installed. in such a manner that future
maintenance of glands etc. is made as easy as possible. All hand wheels must also be accessible.

k) Cross relief vents are to be provided an sail stacks at the floor levels noted on the diagrams. Connections to sail stacks are to be made below the lowest branch serving the floor and the upper end is to join the vent stack not less than 700mm above floor level.

7.7 Potable Water Supply System

a) The system shall commence at the nearest city main connection
or as shown an the Drawings.

b) The system shall include pipings far bath cold and hot water in a direct or indirect supply system if electrical water heater or gas water heater is installed.

c) Unless 'Otherwise specified, ductile iron pipes shall be used for the riser main to water tank and capper tubes shall be used far dawn feed pipes from water tank in this system.

d) All pipes of this system shall run in either walls, floor, screeds
or pipe ducts, and shall apply to the Surveyor for instruction
