After waiting fo rthe others to climb aboard, the two Valkiries, with Lina following, turned and headed for the Extraction Point, leaving the pilots trapped in their powerless machines. When they reached their destination, they set everyone down. Both pilots popped their canopies and jumped down, floating gently to the ground in front of the others.
"Sorry we had to do it like that," said the one who'd lead the attack. He removed his helmet--evealing a lanky, dark-skinned man with very close-cut black hair. "Didn't want to risk a protracted battle, not with someone's life at stake...so I had Ramirez here shut down the flow of electricity in the area to end the fight."
"They didn't give us your communicator frequencies before we left, so we couldn't warn you," the other man added apologetically. "Anyway, we're outside the radius of effect now, so your suit should be fine I didn't drain the battery--just shut down the current."
"Not that you all were doing that bad with them--you fought pretty well, to say it was your first mission together." The young man smiled. "By the way, the name's Kirby--but everyone calls me "Shade.""
He looked at the blond girl they were carrying. "We came here to check on Paige...I'm sorta the Company's parapsychology expert, so I thought I might be able to figure out what was wrong with her...anyway, we got a couple minutes before they pull us out..mind tellin us your names?"
