After being marched nto the trees, several tall, thin humanoids with pointed ears--who could only be elves--stepped forward and sraerched the group quickly, releiving them of their weapons. The fairy-like beings on their shoulders then relax, but only s;ightly. Though they no longer pointed their weapons at their necks, it seemed clear that they would strike quickly if necessary.
Then they were led down the confusing path, soon reaching a well-concealed cave. Inside, they were led before a tall, statuesque woman. She looked much like te elves, except that she radiated a warm, palpable energy which filled and lighted the cave. She looked over them all with huge, sad grey eyes, clearly not looking fowrard to what she was about to do next--until she reached Simon. Then she blinked.
"You, youngling--you are of this world," she said, her voice soft, curious. "Why would you aid these outsiders, who seek only to destroy this place?"
Towards the rear of the group, Paigestaggered, barely able to stand. She was still weak after her ordeal, and the march hadn't helped matters. Instinctively, she sent her thoughts out to the others. "What's going on?...
"Damn..." Shade called out telepatically. If these beings detected the signal, they gave no sign of it. They must think were with the invaders..."
