Author: Rippers' Girl Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, they are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy & UPN. L I simply am doing this for fun, and non-profit use. Feedback: Please tell me what you think -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Tara," Buffy called. "You can come back in now." Tara came back into the room and the three of them talked until the others arrived later that afternoon. After they had all gotten there the doctor released Buffy. She would still be going back everyday for a while for therapy but at least she could go home and sleep in her own bed. Not that she actually slept. When they got back to the house Dawn took Buffy upstairs to bed so she could rest. The others all wanted to see her so Dawn asked if it would be all right for them to come up and see her. "Yes, they can come up for a little while but," Buffy answered. "Please don't leave me alone with Giles or Xander. I know they would never hurt but it's just too soon for me to deal with them alone." "OK," Dawn replied and went down to get everyone. They all made their way into Buffy's room so they could talk to their friend. They didn't talk long because they could all see how tired Buffy was. They left Buffy to get some sleep. Xander and Anya went back to their home while the rest ate supper and went to bed as well. They hadn't been asleep long though when a scream tore through the house. By the time Giles made it up the stairs to Buffy's room the other three girls were already sitting with her trying to comfort their sobbing friend. Oh, God! It's never going to go away. I'm going to have to live with this for the rest of my life. That thought gave her pause. Well considering I'm the slayer that probably won't be that long. Especially since I don't really care if I die and when I do start patrolling again I'll be so scared I won't be able to fight. When she had finally calmed down a little Dawn asked, "Do you want me to stay here with you tonight?" "Thanks, Dawnie," she replied, "but you've got school tomorrow and you should get some rest." "Well," Willow spoke up, "I don't have any classes tomorrow so why don't I stay with you?" "Really?" Buffy asked Willow, looking up at her with hope in her eyes. "Of course," Willow answered. "It will be just like a slumber party." With that she gave Tara a kiss good night and climbed into bed with Buffy. Tara went back to her room. Dawn did the same after giving Buffy a kiss. That just left Giles standing in the doorway still not sure what to do. All he knew was that he wanted to take Buffy in his arms and kiss away all her pain but he knew that was probably the worst thing he could possibly do. He had been in love with Buffy for so long now he couldn't remember a time when he hadn't. He had never expected her to return his feelings so he had never told her not wanting to put any tension into their relationship. "Can I get you anything, Buffy?" he asked quietly. Buffy tried to smile and just said, "No thanks, Giles, I think I'm just going to try and get some sleep." With that she lay down next to Willow. Giles looked at her one last time before returning to the couch. The next few days went about pretty much the same. Buffy went and saw Dr. Robins everyday but every night the house would be woken by her screams. Even though the nightmares continued each day she became a little more comfortable with Xander and Giles. She still didn't like being alone with them but she could if she had to. That Saturday while Buffy was at her doctors appointment the Scoobies sat around the living room talking. "So do we know who did it?" Xander asked bluntly. "Buffy says she couldn't tell what he looked like," Giles answered wearily. "She said she was in too much pain to see clearly." "I hate to call Buffy a liar," Willow said, "but I find that kind of hard to believe." "Of course she's lying," Anya said bluntly. "She knows the police won't find whoever did this to her and she's scared to tell them anyway." "Whether she's lying or not," Giles said, "she will tell us if and when she's ready. What I'm more concerned about is the number of vampires seems to be increasing since Buffy's attack. They must know that Buffy hasn't been patrolling. We need to do something about it." "We could ask Spike," Dawn put in. "I'm afraid we'll have to," Giles replied. "We don't have much of a choice." They decided that he and Willow would go to Spike's crypt that night and ask him to patrol while Buffy was getting better. Then while Giles went to pick up Buffy the others started supper. Buffy was waiting outside when he pulled up. "Hey," she said as she climbed into the car. "How did it go today?" he asked. Buffy just shrugged and replied, "Same as every other day. I talk, she listens, I start to feel a little better." "Well that's good," he replied glancing worriedly at her. He knew she was getting better but he couldn't help being worried anyway. He was just happy that she seemed to be getting used to him again. He still couldn't touch her but she wasn't as tense when it was just him and her. She was still tense with Xander and he felt guilty about being happy that she obviously trusted him more than Xander. He was lost in thought when all of a sudden he felt a tiny hand on his. He almost started to cry he was so happy. He looked at her and asked, "Buffy?" She just smiled at him softly and said, "Giles, there is no one in this world that I trust more than you. I hope you know that it was never anything personal. I know that you would never hurt me but it was just something I had to work through." "Buffy, I know that it was never personal," he said reassuringly. "It means a lot to me though that you are trusting me now. I am honored to have earned that trust." They sat in silence for awhile Buffy's hand still on his. It wasn't until they were almost back to the house that he casually said, "I've decided to ask Spike to patrol while you're recovering." When he had said Spike he had felt Buffy's hand leave his and when he turned to look at him he couldn't believe the look of terror he saw in her eyes. She had started shaking her head back and forth and she was crying so hard she couldn't make the words come out. No! Not Spike! This can't be happening. Giles how could you talk to Spike? Duh, Buffy, maybe because you never told anyone Spike did this to you. Because I couldn't. I couldn't let them know that I couldn't stop Spike. Giles was just staring at her trying to figure out what had upset her when all of sudden he felt like he had been hit by a ton of bricks. It can't be, he thought to himself horrified. Oh, my poor girl what has he done to you? Without even thinking he pulled the car over to the side of the road. When he had stopped he reached over to Buffy and pulled her into his embrace. When she felt his arms go around her she started to struggle. When she did he almost let go but decided that he didn't care. She needed to be held and he needed to hold her. Instead he held her tighter whispering nothings in her ear. Eventually she stopped fighting and grabbed on to him just as hard. She cried her heart out on his shoulder while her held her. She eventually calmed herself down. When she had she pulled away. This time he let her go even though he didn't want to. "Why didn't you tell us?" he asked quietly. "I was too ashamed," she replied miserably. "I didn't want you to be disappointed in me. I'm sorry I couldn't stop him." He just stared incredulously at her for a moment before saying, "Buffy, this was not your fault! Spike is the one to blame for this. It is not your fault!" With that he pulled her to him again. This time she didn't bother struggling. It felt too good to be in his arms. Surprisingly enough, this was the first time she had felt safe since Spike attacked her. Eventually he asked, "Are you ready to go home and face the others?" "Oh, God," Buffy said. "I can't tell them." "Yes, you can," Giles replied. "They are you're friends and they love you." "I can't Giles," she said. "I just can't. Would you tell them?" "All right, I will tell them," he answered. "After I put you to bed that is. You look exhausted." "I feel exhausted," she replied. He started the car again and drove the rest of the way back t Buffy's house. The others were waiting anxiously by the window since their friends should have been back a while ago. They were very relieved when Giles finally pulled into the driveway. They were then surprised when they saw Buffy lean against him as they made their way to the house. Dawn just smiled knowing that this was a good thing. They came inside and Giles took Buffy straight up to her room and then came down to talk to the others. They were waiting in the living room for him all of them having seen Buffy's tear stained face. "What's up, Giles?" Xander asked. "Buffy looked really upset but she was letting you touch her so that's got to be a plus, right?" "I know you all want to know what's going on," Giles replied, "but I'm very hungry right now so could we please eat dinner first and then I will tell you everything." With that they all sat down to dinner. They were all quieter than usual not knowing what to say; besides the fact that they were all preoccupied with whatever was going on with Buffy. Giles sat there eating and thinking. Now that Buffy was taken care of for now he could think about what Spike had done to her. I'm going to kill him, he thought angrily. No, he decided, on second thought killing him would be too easy. He's made Buffy suffer terribly and by God I am going to make him suffer. I'll make Angelus look like bloody Santa Claus when I get through with him. He didn't notice that everyone was looking worriedly at him. He was holding his glass so water so hard they were afraid it was going to break. Finally though dinner was over. After they had washed up they adjourned to the living room. They all sat a little impatiently waiting for Giles to tell them what was going on. He cleared his throat and said, " The reason Buffy was so upset when she got home today was because she told me who had attacked her." "See," Anya broke in. "I told you she was lying." "Anya!" Xander said more harshly than usual. "Sorry," Anya said petulantly. "Who is it?" Dawn asked quietly. "Spike," Giles spat out. Xander jumped to his feet, "I'm going to dust his sorry ass." he immediately headed for the door, the rest jumped up and followed him. "Stop!" Giles commanded in a tone that everyone listened to. "I know you want to do this for Buffy but you can't. She has to do this for herself or she will always be afraid. Besides the fact that you could all get seriously hurt since it seems like Spike's chip isn't working anymore. I will go and make sure that Spike cannot hurt anyone else but no one will kill him until Buffy can face him herself. Dawn, Willow, I suggest the two of you make a tray for Buffy and try to get her to eat some food. Xander and Anya you two should go home, we will see you tomorrow." Xander tried to say something but Giles cut him off with a glare. "Understood?" he asked although it wasn't really a question. They all nodded. He grabbed his jacket and a bag of weapons and went out the door. Xander and Anya left shortly after him while the girls went to prepare some food for Buffy and keep her company. No one had ever seen Giles like this. Well one of them had. Buffy had been coming down the stair case while Giles was talking. She remembered the last time Giles had been like this was when Angelus had killed Jenny. She had been worried about him then but she wasn't this time. She knew that he wouldn't get himself killed. He was more than a match for Spike. If he could withstand torture from Angelus he could take anything Spike threw at him. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ]
