Author: Rippers' Girl Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, they are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy & UPN. L I simply am doing this for fun, and non-profit use. Feedback: Please tell me what you think -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next morning after Buffy had gone to work and the girls had gone to school, Giles set about trying to find something for Spike to wear. He had realized that he couldn't very well force Buffy to confront Spike when he was naked. He wouldn't do that to her. He went back to Spike's crypt and found him still unconscious. Pillock, he thought to himself and kicked Spike's chair over. He found some of Spike's clothes, cut him loose, and began to dress him. He imagined that this must be what it was like to dress a Barbie doll. Why any little girl would subject herself to this torture and call it fun was beyond him. When he was done, he found some of Spike's chains, picked him up and chained him to the wall. He then went back to Buffy's house and began to make dinner for everyone. Dressing Spike was actually the easy part, the thought to himself. The hard part is going to be convincing Buffy to go with me tonight. He just hoped that she trusted him enough. He took the past few days progress as a good sign of her improvement and her trust in him. After dinner, everyone went into the living room to watch the movie that Xander and Anya had rented. They had all finally agreed upon Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. They had all settled down to watch except Giles who stood in the doorway watching them. "I'm going for a walk," he said. "Buffy, would you like to join me?" Buffy stiffened. She had known he would bring it up sooner or later but she had hoped it would be later. Everyone was looking at her to see what her reaction would be. She was just looking at Giles with frightened eyes. He just held her gaze, trying to convince her with his eyes that she would be all right. She looked into his eyes and saw his faith in her. "Okay," she answered shakily, rising from the couch, her eyes never leaving Giles'. He just beamed at her. He knew his slayer could do this. Not just his slayer, his Buffy. Everyone else just sort of looked on in awe. Except Dawn. She knew that if anyone could help Buffy through this it would be Giles. "Let me just grab some stakes," Buffy said, trying to fight the fear that she felt. She went upstairs to grab her jacket and some stakes. Okay, she thought to herself, I can do this. I'm the Slayer. I shouldn't be afraid. I can kick any undead ass. Her fear slowly started to be replaced by anger. I'm the Slayer, she thought again. I'm not afraid to go out at night. The night is my time. Vampires are supposed to be afraid of me not the other way around. I think it's time for me to kick some ass. With that last thought, she made her way down the stairs. "Ready?" she asked without hesitation. Giles just smiled. He saw the fire in her eyes that had been missing for awhile now. He still saw some residual fear but he hadn't expect her to get over it all in one night. He was proud of her for just taking this step. They said good bye to the others and headed out into the night. Giles thought it would be best if she just started with some vampires that she didn't know tonight. He knew there might be some newbies tonight so he decided to take her to those graves first. Buffy was worried that Giles was going to lead her straight to Spike. She was greatly relieved when she realized they were heading towards a different cemetery than the one where Spike's crypt was. They had been walking in comfortable silence until the reached the first grave. When the earth started moving, Giles saw Buffy tense. "You can do this, Buffy," he said quietly. "You were born to do this." She just nodded her assent and waited for him to rise. When he finally made his way out he was confused as to why there were people standing there. He didn't have long to wonder because as soon as he had pulled himself totally out of his grave he was attacked by the young blond and was soon fighting for his unlife. Giles just watched Buffy as she went after the vampire. He knew she could easily stake him but she seemed to need to work off her aggression and since she was in no real danger from this newbie. Buffy was fighting the vampire, well not so much fighting as beating the crap out of, but still. It feels so good, she thought to herself. She hadn't realized that a part of herself had missed the slaying. She realized then that being the slayer was a part of who she was and without it a part of her had been missing. She knew that when Giles brought her to Spike she would be able to dust him and put this behind her. It still hurt and she still had issues to work through but she knew that being out here tonight, getting in back in touch with this part of herself, helped her a lot. After she had thought this all through she realized that she needed to just stake this vampire since it was hardly even putting up a fight anymore, she had pummeled him so hard. When the dust had settled she had turned to Giles. "Thanks," she said. He looked in her eyes and saw the Buffy he had missed so dearly. The one that hadn't really been here since before her fight with Glory. He just smiled his soft, shy smile and said, "Your welcome." "Let's go," Buffy said and began walking towards the cemetery that had caused her all this pain to begin with. Giles caught up to her and asked, "Are you sure your ready?" She stopped and looked at him. "I am know," she replied. "Thanks to you." She gave in to her impulse to hug him. Giles was almost too stunned at first to react but quickly overcame his shock and wrapped his arms around his slayer. This feels so good, they both thought. If only I could stay here forever. But then the moment was interrupted when Buffy suddenly pulled herself from Giles' arms. Stunned, Giles tried to figure out what he had done wrong when he saw Buffy turn, whip out a stake, and dust the vamp that had been sneaking up on them. Turning back to him with a smile on her face she said, "Buffy two; vamps zero." He just smiled back at her. He had missed this Buffy so much and was so glad that she was back. He had been thinking about moving back to Sunnydale but wanted to make sure that she wouldn't fall back to her habit of putting everything on him. If the Buffy he was seeing tonight, though, was here to stay then he knew he would be moving back here in a heartbeat. He had missed her so much in England. Missed them all really but of course his slayer most of all. He would wait and see what happened in the next week or so before he made his final decision but in his head he was already trying to figure out how to get his things shipped back to the Sunnydale without having to spend too much time in England, away from his slayer. He was so lost in thought that he didn't realize that Buffy had stopped until he almost bumped into her. He looked around and tried to get his bearings. He realized immediately why Buffy had stopped. They were outside Spike's crypt. He thought maybe Buffy had changed her mind but she just took his hand and made her way inside. Spike was still chained to the wall where Giles had left him this afternoon except now he was conscious. He saw Giles first and asked, "What do you want now? Want all the little details of how I fucked your slayer? Want to hear how she begged me to stop and how she even started crying?" He knew he was being stupid but he was in too much pain too care. He was also hoping that if he pushed Giles too far that Giles would just kill him and put him out of his misery. When Spike had said this Giles had felt Buffy's hand tighten on his and he was slightly worried that if she gripped any harder he would have some broken bones. Instead Buffy let go of his hand and stepped around him so she and Spike could see each other. "Well if it isn't the little slut herself," Spike continued to shoot his mouth off. "I knew you'd want to come back for more." He tried to smirk at her but couldn't quite get his mouth to work the way he wanted to after his holy water "bath" yesterday. Buffy walked up to him slowly and said, "You're pathetic Spike, you know that. They only way you could get me was to beat me and rape me. Not only did you do that to me but you took away my confidence. But I realized tonight that you only had that control over me because I let you. I am my own person and nothing you have done to me should make me feel like less of a person. You're nothing to me Spike. You're beneath me and you have no power over me anymore." And with that she dusted him. She flung herself into Giles' arms and started crying. "It's over," she sobbed. "Oh, God. It's really over." He just held whispering soothing words in her ear. When she had finally pulled herself together they made there way back home. When they got there Xander and Anya had left and the others had gone to bed. "Good night, Giles," Buffy said, "and thank you. For everything." Giving in to her second impulse of the evening she stood on tiptoe and gave him a kiss on his cheek before going upstairs to bed. Giles stood there for a moment with his hand on his cheek, staring after her. "Good night, Buffy," he whispered and went to try and make himself comfortable on the couch. After that everyone started noticing the change in Buffy. It was the one they had all missed. It was the Buffy they had known before she died. There were still times when she was depressed or upset but whenever she was they would all help her through it and somehow they knew it was going to be okay. After that night Buffy started patrolling again. Giles went with her the first couple of nights but Friday night he sent her out on her own. He needed to make sure she could take care of herself like she used to. If all went well tonight he would make his announcement tomorrow at dinner. He had already been busy making arrangements, knowing that Buffy wouldn't let him down. He would have to go back to London for only a week to get his affairs in order and then he would be home for good. It actually worked out fairly nicely since the people who were leasing his flat would be leaving at the end of the month he'd be able to move back in there when he got back from England. As much as he loved sharing a house with Buffy, he had to admit he would be glad to sleep in a bed again. He didn't think his back would be able to handle this couch much longer. So he just sat back and waited for Buffy to get back form patrol. Smiling that his life had changed so much for the better in a little over a month. He just hoped Buffy would be happy he was moving back. He knew she had been hurt when he had left but he was pretty sure she had gotten over it and forgiven him.
