Never Again by Nickelback

He's drunk again, it's time to fight
She must have done something wrong tonight
The living room becomes a boxing ring
It's time to run when you see him
Clenching his hands
She's just a woman
Never Again

I hear her scream, from down the hall
Amazing she can even talk at all
She cries to me, Go back to bed
I'm terrified that she'll wind up
Dead in his hands, She's just a woman
Never Again

Been there before, but not like this
Seen it before, but not like this
Never before have I ever
Seen it this bad
She's just a woman
Never Again

Just tell the nurse, you slipped and fell
It starts to sting as it starts to swell
She looks at you, she wants the truth
It's right out there in the waiting room
With those hands
Lookin just as sweet as he can
Never Again

Seen it before, but not like this
Been there before, but not like this
Never before have I ever
Seen it this bad
She's just a woman
Never Again

Father's a name you haven't earned yet
You're just a child with a temper
Haven't you heard "Don't hit a lady"?
Kickin' your ass would be a pleasure

He's drunk again, it's time to fight
Same old shit, just on a different night
She grabs the gun, she's had enough
Tonight she'll find out how fucking
Tough is this man
Pulls the trigger just as fast as she can br>Never Again

Seen it before, but not like this
Been there before, but not like this
Never before have I ever
Seen it this bad
She's just a woman
Never Again

I Stand Alone by Godsmack

I've told you this once before can't control me
If you try to take me down you're gonna break
I feel your having nothing that you're doing for me
I'm thinkin you are a fake, you are that way
I stand alone
Inside I stand alone
You're always hiding behind your so called goddess
So what you don't think that we can't see your face
Resurrecting back before the final fallen
I'll never rest until I can make my own way
I'm not afraid of fading
I stand alone
Feeling your sting down inside me
I'm not tired forever

I stand alone
Everything that I believe is fading
I stand alone
Inside I stand alone
Now it's my time
It's my time to dream
Dream of the sky
Make me believe that this place isn't made by the poison in me
Help me decide if my fire will burn out before you can breathe
Breathe into me
I stand alone
Inside I stand alone
Feeling your sting down inside me
I'm not tired forever
I stand alone
Everything that I believe is fading
I stand alone
Inside I stand alone
Inside I stand alone Inside

Nobody Told Me by Puddle of Mudd

Looking back at my childhood
wasn’t to bad but it wasn’t that great
I carry the luggage like a bag of bricks
feels like it’s holding me down again
staring down a pitch black road
painted lines show me the direction
the sun is burning on my face
the sun is setting me on fire

nobody told me where to go
nobody told me when to run

I can’t find my way back home
lost my head down there some where
could we just be gone alone
lived in doubt and fear I’ve shown
gazing down a long grey road
I see the stop sign way up ahead
sun is burning on my face
the sun is setting me on fire

no body told me where to go
nobody told me when to run
nobody told me where to go
nobody told me nobody told me

same old shit different day
gotta get up, gotta get up
x5

I can’t find my way back home
lost my head down there some where
could we just be gone alone
lived in doubt and fear I’ve shown
gazing down a long grey road
I see the stop sign way up ahead
sun is burning on my face
the sun is setting me on fire

no body told me where to go
nobody told me when to run

Hey, how 'bout that. All the new music I like is cynical headbanger music. Who knew? Of course even when they actually have something to say I generally don't agree with them but I do like a good, loud, driving beat and a powerful voice with some kind of irregular twist. Godsmack's "Voodoo" and "I f**kin' hate you" are my current favorites.

Very Good Michael! So nice to find something to agree on. I like Nickleback and Godsmack as well. Cynical lyrics absolutely. Hey have you seen Grosse Pointe Blank? Great movie AND music(even though it IS 80's music)..very cynical. I love it!

Yep. I like John Cusack movies generally. I liked his character in "Say Anything" too though the movie was unspectacular, and he was excellent in "Being John Malkovich". I haven't seen "Grosse Pointe Blank" in too long to remember the music.

For a first rate soundtrack tho', try "The Punisher". The whole thing is head banger stuff except for one song that one of the characters sings to the protagonist in the movie just before he tries to kill him.

I forget who gets the credit for this CW ballad, but it goes kinda like:

I can hear what you're thinkin',
All your doubts and fears.
If you look in my eyes
In time you'll find
The reason I'm here.

In time all things shall pass away,
In time you may come back someday,
To live once more,
Or die once more,
But in time your time will be no more.

You know your days are numbered,
Count 'em one by one,
Like notches in the handle
of an outlaws gun.

You can outrun the devil,
If you try...
But you'll never outrun the hands of time.

In time there'll surely come a day,
In time you may come back some say,
To live once more,
Or die once more,
But in time your time will be no more,

I can hear what you're thinkin...

Grosse Pointe Blank is the best movie ever. EVER. Oh now I have to watch it again.

Here's some lyrics:

Open Your Eyes
by Staind

(This isn't one of my favorites, but it does have a message)

As I walk along these streets
I see a man that walks alone
Distant echo of people's feet
He has no place to call his own
A shot rings out from a roof overhead
A crackhead asks for change nearby
An old man lies in an alleyway dead
A little girl lost just stands there and cries

What would you do, if it was you
Would you take everything
For granted like you do

A boy just 13 on the corner for sale
Swallows his pride for another hit
Overpopulation there's no room in jail
But most of you don't give a sh*t
That your daughters are porno stars
And your sons sell death to kids
You're so lost in your little worlds
Your little worlds you'll never fix

What would you do, if it was you
Would you take everything
For granted like you do

You turn away
As I walk along the streets
Soaking up the acid rain
Underneath the taxi cabs
I hear the streets cry out in vain

****

There are a gazillion songs out there by people who are mad at their fathers, so I won't include those.

U2's songs are usually socially relevant, but I don't listen to them that much.

I don't know how socially relevant this song is, but it's one of my favorite Radiohead songs. Radiohead is awesome.

Karma Police

Karma police
arrest this man,
he talks in maths,
he buzzes like a fridge,
he's like a detuned radio.

Karma police
arrest this girl,
her Hitler hairdo
is making me feel ill
and we have crashed her party.

This is what you get,
this is what you get,
this is what you get,
when you mess with us.

Karma police
I've given all I can,
it's not enough,
I've given all I can
but we're still on the payroll.

This is what you get,
this is what you get,
this is what you get,
when you mess with us.

For a minute there
I lost myself, I lost myself.
Phew, for a minute there,
I lost myself, I lost myself.

For a minute there
I lost myself, I lost myself.
Phew, for a minute there,
I lost myself, I lost myself.

Talk Shows on Mute
by Incubus

Take a bow
Pack on powder
Wash 'em out with buzzing lights
Pay an audience to care
Impress me personality

Still and transfixed
The electric sheep,
Are dreaming of your face
Enjoy you from the chemical
Comfort of America

Come one
Come all
Into 1984
Yeah, three, two, one
Lights, camera, transaction

Quick, your time is almost up
Make all forget that they're the moth
Edging in, towards the flame
Burn into obscurity

Still and transfixed
the electric sheep
are dreaming up your fate
And judge you from
the card castle
comfort of America

Come one
Come all
Into 1984
Yeah, three, two, one
Lights, camera...yeah
come one
come all
into 1984
Yeah, three, two one
Lights, camera, transaction

Lights, camera, transaction

Come one
Come all
To 1984
Yeah, three, two, one
Lights, camera, transaction

The foundation is canyoning
Fault lines should be worn with pride
I hate to say it
You're so much more
You're so much more
Endearing with the sound turned off.

I like Incubus - especially Megalomaniac.

That's all for now. =)

Ooooeee, heavy lyrics.

Something here, lighter and older:

I heard from a friend
You been messing around,
With a cute little thing
I been dating up town.

Well I don' know if
I like that idea much.
You better stay clear
I might start actin' rough.

You out of town guys sure
Think you're real keen.
Think all of us boys here are
Homespun and green.

But thats, wrong my friend,
So get this though your head.
We're tough and we're Texan
With necks good and red.

Well its ki-yi-yippee-yi-yi
You long hairs are sure gonna die.
Our American home was clean 'til you came
And kids still respected the President's name.

And the eagle still flew in the sky.
Hearts filled with the national pride.
Then you came along
with your drug crazy songs...
God Dammit you're all gonna die.

How dare you sit there
And drink all our beer.
Its made for us workers
Who sweat, spit and swear.

The minds of our daughters
Are poisoned by you
With your communistic politics
And them, negro blues.

Well I'm gonna quit talkin'
And take action now.
Run all of you fairies
Clean out of this town.

'Cause I'm dog tired of watchin' you
Mess up our lives
Spendin' the summer time
Naturally high.

So its ki-yi-yippee-yi-yi
You long hairs are sure gonna die
Our American home was clean 'til you came
And kids still respected the President's name

And the eagle still flew in the sky
Hearts filled with the national pride
Then you came along
with your drug crazy songs...
God Dammit you're all gonna die.

(Texas Love Song by Elton John)

Elton John used to be great. Dangit.

Ok I know this isn't a song, but I have to put it somewhere and I didn't want to start yet another thread just yet:

Go HERE. You'll love it. Well, Katy will anyway.

That's Zach Braff's blog. (of Scrubs, Garden State . . .) Katy (and whoever else wants to go), we have to see Garden State on Wednesday because it's only here until Thursday and I have class on Tuesday and Thursday.

Ok I'm tying this together with music because in one of his blogs, Zach says something about how maybe Alanis Morissette's song "Ironic" was only ironic because there was no irony in it. haha. So there ya go.

Haley plays a lot of socially relevant songs. She likes Ani Difranco, and I don't. But here's a good oldie, if we're doing oldies now:

Peace Train
Cat Stevens

Now I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller

Everyone jump up on the peace train
Come on now peace train

Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer, it soon will be with you

Now come and join the living, it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer, soon it will all be true

Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

Oh, oops, I reread part of Zach's post and I had it wrong, about the irony . . .

"Wow, quite a passionate discourse last week on the subject of irony. And all of you that claim that Alanis intended the song to be ironic cause there's no irony in the song... oh come on! Doesn't that sound like Monday morning quarterbacking? But fear not, I will not ever dare to question your Canadian Songstress again."

I knew you'd all care. a lot.

I went looking for lyrics and came up with this...and in case you didn't know Yusaf Islam(Cat Stevens)tried to come into the U.S. last week and was deported back to England. He is being watched because supposedly he has had communication with or has given money to Osama's boys. I hear he's a pacifist but that's neither here nor there at least in regard to this article.

True terror: Cat Stevens comeback
By ANDY BOROWITZ

Hours after being refused entry into the United States, 1970s recording star Cat Stevens lashed out at the U.S. government Wednesday, vowing to resume his recording career "immediately" as the ultimate act of revenge.

Appearing on the Arabic-language satellite TV channel Al Jazeera, a visibly angry Stevens -- now known by the name Yusuf Islam -- threatened to attack the United States with the full force of his insipid folk-rock music.

Brandishing an acoustic guitar, the erstwhile pop star warned that "no one in America would be safe from my insidious melodies" before launching into a spirited rendition of his 1971 hit Peace Train.

A spokesman for the CIA said experts needed more time to study the chilling video but that it appeared to be authentic: "We do not believe that anyone but the real Cat Stevens remembers the lyrics to Peace Train."

On the campaign trail, Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry blasted President Bush for the Cat Stevens incident, saying the president's reckless actions had resuscitated an irritating singer's long-dormant recording career.

"When George Bush took office, Cat Stevens was not a threat," Kerry told a rally in Akron, Ohio.

"Through a successful policy of containment, his music had mainly been limited to classic-rock stations. But now, thanks to George Bush's misguided decision to provoke Cat Stevens, we may be subjected to renditions of Morning Has Broken and Moonshadow and Wild World for years to come."

Aides to Kerry passed out lyrics of songs by Stevens, including this one from 1970:

"I wish I knew, I wish I knew; what makes me, me, and what makes you, you. It's just another point of view, ooo. A state of mind I'm going through."

For his part, Bush defended the decision, telling a Denver audience:

"Cat Stevens is the first front in the war on terror, with Seals and Croft a close second."

Borowitz is author of The Borowitz Report: The Big Book of Shockers, to be pblished in October by Simon & Schuster.

Hey, Cat Stevens is a mooslum and those are dangeroust folks, though I don't believe any of those who have professed enmity for the U.S. so far have been old hippy, folk singer types. Still Yusef agreed with many of his mooslum compatriots that Salman Rushdie needed to be croaked for writing the Satanic Verses so maybe he got over the whole peace and love sixties fad.

Here's a lyric worth remembering:

Break On Through (To The Other Side) by the Doors

You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She gets, she gets
She gets, she gets

I found an island in your arms
A country in your eyes
Arms that chain us
Eyes that lied
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Made the scene from week to week
Day to day, hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through, break on through
Break on through, break on through
Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, . . .

----

Like, deep man. I still dig the Doors.

Yeah I do wonder about Yusef. He sure doesn't look like a hippy pacifist any more. Here are a few more songs to add to the list:

EVERLAST

What It's Like

We've all seen a man at the liquor store beggin' for your change
The hair on his face is dirty, dread-locked, and full of mange
He asks a man for what he could spare, with shame in his eyes
"Get a job you f***ing slob," is all he replies
God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to sing the blues

Then you really might know what it's like...
Then you really might know what it's like...
Then you really might know what it's like...
Then you really might know what it's like...

Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom that said he was in love
He said, "Don't worry about a thing, baby doll
I'm the man you've been dreaming of."
But 3 months later he say he won't date her or return her calls
And she swear, "God damn, if I find that man I'm cuttin' off his balls."
And then she heads for the clinic and
she gets some static walking through the door
They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner
and they call her a whore
God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes
'cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose

Chorus

I've seen a rich man beg
I've seen a good man sin
I've seen a tough man cry
I've seen a loser win
And a sad man grin
I heard an honest man lie
I've seen the good side of bad
And the downside of up
And everything between
I licked the silver spoon
Drank from the golden cup
And smoked the finest green
I stroked the fattest dimes at least a couple of times
before I broke their heart
You know where it ends, yo, it usually depends on where you start

I knew this kid named Max
He used to get fat stacks out on the corner with drugs
He liked to hang out late
he liked to get shit-faced and keep the pace with thugs
Until late one night there was a big gun fight and Max lost his head
He pulled out his chrome .45, talked some shit, and wound up dead
Now his wife and his kids are caught in the midst of all of this pain
You know it crumbles that way
at least that's what they say when you play the game
God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to lose

Then you really might know what it's like...
Then you really might know what it's like...
Then you really might know what it's like...to have to lose

BOYZ IN THE HOOD - Dynamite Hack (A tongue-in-cheek view of the 'hood')
Woke up quick at about noon
Just thought that I had to be in Compton soon
I gotta get drunk before the day begins
Before my mother starts bitchin' about my friends
About to go and damn near went blind
Young niggaz on the pad throwin' up gang signs
I went in the house to get the clip
With my Mac10 on the side of my hip
I bailed outside and pointed my weapon
Just as I thought, the fools kept steppin
I jumped in the fo' hit the juice on my ride
I got front and back side to side
Then I let the alpine play
I was pumpin' new shit by NWA
It was "Gangster Gangster" at the top of the list
Then I played my own shit, it went somethin' like this:

Cruisin' down the street in my 6-fo'
Jockin' the bitches, slappin' the hoe's
I went to the park to get the scoop
Knuckle-heads out there cold shootin' some hoop
A car pulls up, who can it be?
The fresh El Camino rollin Kilo G
He rolls down the window and he starts to say
It's all about makin' that G.T.A.

Cuz the boyz in the hood are alwayz hard
You come talkin' that trash and we'll pull your card
Knowin' nothin' in life but to be legit
Don't quote me boy, cuz I ain't said shit ...

Bored as hell and I wanna get ill
So I go to a place where my homeboyz chill
The fellas out there try to make that dollar
I pulled up in the 6-fo' and hollered
greeted with a 40 and I start drinkin'
And from the 8-ball my breath start stinkin'
I gotta get my girl to rock that body
Before I left I hit the bacardi
Pulled to the house get her out of the pad
And the bitch said something to make me mad
She said somethin' that I couldn't believe
So I grabbed the stupid bitch by her nappy ass weave
She started talkin' shit, would'nt you know?
I reached back like a pimp and slapped the hoe'
And her father stood up and he started to shout
So I threw a right-cross and knocked his old ass out

Cuz the boyz in the hood are alwayz hard
You come talkin' that trash and we'll pull your card
Knowin' nothin' in life but to be legit'
Don't quote me boy, cuz I ain't said shit ...

Punk ass trippin in the dead of night
homies score and key is gonna fly, punk ass fly

And one more ~ this one is old ~ I heard a mental health prof. at a workshop describe this song as a perfect example of someone who has an Attachment Disorder ~

Behind Blue Eyes
The Who
- words and music by Pete Townshend
- as recorded by The Who on their 1971 album "Who's next"

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

No one knows what it's like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

No one knows what it's like
To feel these feelings
Like I do
And I blame you

No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe
Can show through

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool

And if I swallow anything evil
Put your finger down my throat
And if I shiver, please give me a blanket
Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

That one by the Who reminded me of another by Pink Floyd:

Paranoid Eyes

Button your lip. Don't let the shield slip.
Take a fresh grip on your bullet proof mask.
And if they try to break down your disguise with their questions
You can hide, hide, hide,
Behind paranoid eyes.

You put on our brave face and slip over the road for a jar.
Fixing your grin as you casually lean on the bar,
Laughing too loud at the rest of the world
With the boys in the crowd
You hide, hide, hide,
Behind petrified eyes.

You believed in their stories of fame, fortune and glory.
Now you're lost in a haze of alcohol soft middle age
The pie in the sky turned out to be miles too high.
And you hide, hide, hide,
Behind brown and mild eyes.
---------

This'uns not really a standalone kind of piece. I b'lieve you havta listen to the whole "Final Cut" CD as its somewhat of a theme CD.

And one more selection from that old fav...
-----
Two Suns in the Sunset

In my rear view mirror the sun is going down
Sinking behind bridges in the road
And I think of all the good things
That we have left undone
And I suffer premonitions
Confirm suspicions
Of the holocaust to come.

The wire that holds the cork
That keeps the anger in
Gives way
And suddenly it's day again.
The sun is in the east
Even though the day is done.
Two suns in the sunset
Hmmmmmmmmmm
Could be the human race is run.

Like the moment when the brakes lock
And you slide towards the big truck
"Oh no!"
"[scream] Daddy, Daddy!"
You stretch the frozen moments with your fear.
And you'll never hear their voices
And you'll never see their faces
You have no recourse to the law anymore.

And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.
Ashes and diamonds
Foe and friend
We were all equal in the end.

("...and now the weather. Tomorrow will be cloudy with scattered showers spreading from the east ... with an expected high of 4000 degrees Celsius")

You people shouldn't rush to judgement on Cat Stevens (Yusef Islam) before you hear what he had to say about it. I have the "Behind the Music" on him taped, and in it he says he never supported killing Salman Rushdie, and I just saw a clip of him being interviewed about the airplane thing and he said he never gave money to support any terrorists; he said all the charities he gives to are for children or education; things like that. There are millions of peace loving Muslims, you know. He just happens to be a famous one.

And before you say he could be lying, well duh . . . of course he could be lying. I'm just telling you what I heard him say.

Hey, I like Cat Stevens, I just took advantage of the situation to make fun of him. I apologize. Now when can I watch that "Behind the Music", they never show the good ones anymore on MTV, just Brittany Spears, and J Lo, no real artists who love making good music but hate the plastic life of a rock star like Yusef.
Here's one more song - not even a little bit relevant - but a little humorous.

1985 by Bowling for Soup

Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One Prozac a day
Husbands a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned twenty four
Only been with one man
What happen to her plan?

She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of White Snake's car
Her yellow SUV, is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing, has been, alright

Since Bruce Springstein, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2, and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids, in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
But she still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985

Woo-hoo-hoo

1985

Woo-hoo-hoo

She's seen all the classics
She knows every line
Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink
Even Saint Elmo's Fire
She rocked out to wham
Not a big Limp Biscuit fan
Thought she'd get a hand
On a member of Duran Duran

Where's the mini-skirt made of snake skin
And who's the other guy singing in Van Halen
When did reality, become T.V.
What ever happen to sitcoms, game shows

On the radio was

Springstein, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2, and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids, in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
But she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985

Woo-hoo-hoo

She hates time, make it stop
When did Motley Crue become classic rock?
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this stop!
Stop!
Stop!

And bring back

Springstein, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2, and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids, in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
But she's still preoccupied
With 1985

Ha, that's great; I haven't heard that one.

I wasn't offended at the funny thing you posted about Cat Stevens, I was just trying to set the official record straight on what he actually said.

I can't think of any songs right now; I'm supposed to be working. =)

OH YEAH . . . .

Alice's Restaurant, the perfect socially relevant song.

I have the live version where he's talking at the end about going to Jimmy Carter's inaugural thing and how Chip Carter told him they found his record when they moved in . . . and it was open . . . and that got him to thinking about how many things are exactly 18 minutes and 20 seconds long . . . it's great.

Here's an oldie from the same time frame as Alice's Restaurant and a new version as well.

I FEEL LIKE I'M FIXIN' TO DIE RAG
by Country Joe and the Fish

Yeah!
Come on all of you big strong men.
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Vietnam,
So put down your books and pick up a gun.
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

And it's one, two, three, what are we fightin' for?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn.
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates.
Well, there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopie! We're all gonna die!

Well, come on Generals, let's move fast.
Your big chance has come at last.
Gotta go out and get those Reds.
The only good Commie is the one that's dead.
You know that peace can only be won
When we've blown 'em all to kingdom come.

And it's one, two, three, what are we fightin' for?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn.
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates.
Well, there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopie! We're all gonna die!

Come on, Wall Street, don't move slow.
Why man, this is war a-go-go.
There's plenty good money to be made
By supplying the Army with the tools of the trade.
Just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
They drop it on the Viet Cong.

And it's one, two, three, what are we fightin' for?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn.
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates.
Well, there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopie! We're all gonna die!

Well, come on, mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Vietnam.
Come on, fathers, don't hesitate,
Send them off before it's too late.
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box.

And it's one, two, three, what are we fightin' for?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn.
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates.
Well, there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopie! We're all gonna die!

And the new.

Fixin' to Die in Iraq

by Randall Bart

Come on all you Americans.
Bush is President again.
He found a guy who's really bad.
The name's Saddam. He's in Baghdad.
So show some ID, take off your shoes.
What have you got to lose?

And it's one, two, three,
What are we searching for?
George said it, it must be true.
I believe in W.
And it's five, six, seven,
Tell me who I should hate.
There's no need to wonder why,
'Cause Presidents never lie.

The USA's the worldwide cop,
And evildoers must be stopped.
Saddam's got nukes and poison gas.
Let's go kick him in the ass.
Conquer the land, sell off the oil.
To the victor goes the spoil.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we searching for?
George said it, it must be true.
I believe in W.
And it's five, six, seven,
Tell me who I should hate.
There's no need to wonder why,
'Cause Presidents never lie.

Now there's rebuilding to be done.
Halliburton is the one.
Cheney says they have the skills.
We're the ones who pay the bills.
So give up your rights. Write me a check.
We'll make the whole world a wreck.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we paying for?
Dick said it, it must be spent.
He's our Vice President.
And it's five, six, seven,
Tell me who I should hate.
There's no need to wonder why.
Vice Presidents never lie.

I always liked the original of this song but the take-offs are pretty lame.

Its really too bad Johnson and McNamara wouldn't let us win that war.

(Freakin' At) The Freaker's Ball
Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show
(Shel Silverstein)

Well there's gonna be a freaker's ball (ha ha)
Tonight at the Freaker's Hall
And you know you're invited one and all
Uh oh

Come on baby's grease your lips
Grab your hats and swing your hips
And don't forget to bring your whips
We're going to the freaker's ball (yes)

Blow your whistle, and bang your gong
Roll up something to take along
It feels so good, it must be wrong
We're freakin' at the freaker's ball

Well all the fags and the dykes they're boogie-in' together
The leather freaks are dressed in all kinds of leather
The greatest of the sadists and the masochists too
Screaming please hit me and I'll hit you

The FBI is dancin' with the junkies
All the straights, swingin' with the funkies
Across the floor and up the wall
We're freakin' at the freaker's ball, y'all
We're freakin' at the freaker's ball

Everybody's kissing each other
Brother with sister, son with mother
Smear my body up with butter
And take me to the freaker's ball

Pass that roach please, and pour the wine
I'll kiss yours if you'll kiss mine
I'm gonna boogie 'til I'm cold blind
Freakin' at the freaker's ball

White ones, black ones, yellow ones, red ones
Necrophiliacs looking for dead ones
The greatest of the sadists and the masochists too
Screaming please hit me and I'll hit you

Everybody ballin' in batches
Pyromaniacs strikin' matches
I'm gonna itch me where it scratches
Freakin' at the freaker's ball, y'all
We're freakin' at the freaker's ball

We're at a ball
We're freakin' at the freaker's ball

The Cover Of The Rolling Stone
Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show
(Shel Silverstein)

(Hey Ray, hey sugar, tell them who we are)

Well, we're big rock singers, we got golden fingers and we're loved everywhere we go (That sounds like us)
We sing about beauty and we sing about truth at ten thousand dollars a show (Right)
We take all kinds of pills, that give us all kind of thrills but the thrill we've never known
Is the thrill that'll get you when you get your picture on the cover of The Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone, wanna see my picture on the cover
Wanna buy five copies for my mother (Yeah!)
Wanna see my smilin' face, on the cover of The Rolling Stone

(That's a very very good idea)

I got a freaky old lady name o' Cocaine Kitty who embroiders on my jeans
I got my poor ol' grey haired daddy, drivin' my limousine
Now it's all designed to blow our minds but our minds won't really be blown
Like the blow that'll getcha when you get your picture on the cover of The Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone, wanna see my picture on the cover
Wanna buy five copies for my mother (Yeah!)
Wanna see my smilin' face, on the cover of The Rolling Stone

(Hey, I know how...)
(ROCK AND ROLL!)

(Aww, dats beautiful)

We got a lot of little teenage blue eyed groupies who'll do anything we say
We got a genuine Indian guru, who's teachin' us a better way
We got all the friends, that money can buy, so we'll never have to be alone
And we keep gettin' richer but we can't get our picture on the cover of The Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone, wanna see my picture on the cover
Wanna buy five copies for my mother (I want one!)
Wanna see my smilin' face, on the cover The Rolling Stone

On the cover of the
Rolling Stone, wanna see my picture on the cover (I don't know why we ain't on the cover, baby)
Gonna buy five copies for my mother (We're beautiful fellows)
Wanna see my smiling face (I ain't kidding ya)
On the cover of The Rolling Stone (Ah, we would make a beautiful cover)

(The first shot, right up front man, I can see it now)
(We would be on the front smilin' man)
(Aahhhhh beautiful)
