Subject: A New Idea

Alright, I have a question.
It seems that when it comes to poetry our class becomes a little less than useful.
I understand that poetry is now a public and private tool, but you could say that about all writing. However, by being in this class, I assume that everyone wants to improve their work. Yet, whenever a poet hands in work, we all find it difficult to critique (I know I am guilty of this too) and there are dirty looks given to people who try and understand the work. Well I am sick of the excuse that it is private, all poetry must have a meaning, must be trying to do something. I love the fact that there are poets in the class, I find it to be beautiful and thoughtful, but at the same time, the poetry seems to always be hands off.
how can we as a class of critics rectify this?
