Your observations are very valid. I agree that we need to distinguish between "pourly" written pieces and our own personal tastes. But that is easier said than done, I expect. Why we write what we write is because, I believe, we feel that that is the best way of writing. I dont know anyone who includes in their writing something mediocre, on purpose, just due to the fact that they like it. In fact, isn't that why we like what we like? Dont we feel like it's the best? Maybe not. This whole thing about criticism has begun to confuse me. It seems that each person wants to rule out a different way of critiquing, which means, in the end, no one can say anything. I suppose this is a problem for Garber to handle. He's been doing this for years, so probably knows the best way of doing things. I suggest we ask him for help.
