I disagree! (A personal opinion, I concede).

The reason we are in this class (my personal opinion) is to hear the opinions of our peers -- of other writers. Who is more qualified to critique writing than writers?

Sure, maybe someone will have a stupid opinion, but at least then the writer will know what sorts of stupid opinions other "real people" out there might have, right?

When I read writing in this class, by the way, I am certainly not looking for a replication of my own style. As an English student and a reader, I feel quite able to read and appreciate writing that is not my own.

Perhaps I will hold back in critiquing your work if that is what you would like, but by all means CRITICIZE MY WORK HONESTLY, PLEASE! I am not in this class to make me feel better about myself -- I am here to converse openly with writers.

PS: I have nothing against Canadian imagery as such -- if I did, suppose I'd have to blind myself Oedipus-style.
