yeah, we had the Telegraph (very right wing in those days but we were encouraged to vote Conservative because we were toild that Labour would take our kids away from us for beating the kids.

The paper always had large sections cut out of them. They didn't take the whole page...just acrefully removed rectangle. I never did learn what it was that we weren't mature enough to be trusted to read.

Noel was a bit the same with the Bible, though. I have him on tape exhorting people not to read ahead of the verse he had quoted. He took things right out of context. People who read on were told to look up and told that they needed to trust him, he wouldn't mislead them about what was there.
