Subject: Reasons for parents to hate KRF

For weeks after attending the faire, your kids will run around chanting...

"Cheat to win, cheat to win!" and
"Kill, kill, hate, hate, murder, murder, mutilate!".

If you're really lucky they won't do it at soccer games, school functions or playing cards with grandma.

I'm stuck in my booth for most periods of the day... so... I'm a little ignorant on that... Is that in one of the parts of the shows?

I believe that's what the crowds are encouraged to cheer during the joust.

And here all we used to say was "Blood makes the grass grow, kill kill kill!"

Kids today...

I think "Alsatia sleeps with sheep!" was one of my favorites.

However, I think that when kids see people being killed on the joust field, they should remain that way. When the jousters magically come back to life, that shows them the wrong message.

Granted, so does them being killed...

But, I think that if we're showing violence, we should show the consequences that go with it. Personally, I don't think anyone should die, but hey, it's not my gig.

Ahh..kids.

~Amy, thankful she doesn't run the faire.

Yeah! What is *UP* with that? Some sort of PC thing? I remember the days when they would burn the losing jouster on funeral pyre.

And they had hangings.

And be-headings. And they would put the head on a pike. (Not the weapon, the fish)...

Those were the days...

I have attended every joust thus far this season, and I have never heard anyone cheering "Kill, kill, hate, hate..." As far as I know, the apprentices have been instructed to try to nip that one in the bud should any patrons begin it.

About cheating to win: playing cards with Grandma is one thing, but actually DYING if you lose is surely another. While I'm not living in such a chivalrous, honor-coded time as these knights were, I have a feeling that if I were in a life or death situation, I'd do more or less anything in my power to not be slaughtered.

I do hope that the messages received at the faire are truthful (i.e. yes, there are both good and bad and everything in between people in this world, because that is the truth, but also that you yourself can strive to be good in your own endeavors, as detailed by, say, the King's adamancy that they should be ashamed of their deeds and the honesty touted at the knighting ceremony.)

Stop destroying the magic of this board with you postings, Ryann. Making up all that positive stuff about King Richard's Faire doesn't fool us. We remember when you were "Stage Manager" for the apprentice program and you used to try to get the apprentices to do cheers like "Yippee!" and "Good Luck, Thomas, Duke of Kent", and all the apprentices said they were lame, and you said "Lame? I'll show you lame!", and then you took that pipe that you used to bash Nancy Kerrigan with and started wailing on the apprentices until Paul and Dave stopped you when you crippled so many that there wouldn't be enough left to man the joust, and then you told Smee and Blog that it would be so cool if they worked the joust that day and they did and one of the knights accidentally killed Smee, or Blog, whichever one the little quiet one was, and then you told Bonnie that she only had to pay them half their fee because one of them was dead and then Bonnie asked if you could convince the Puppeteers of Ecstacy to do the joust the next day and maybe kill one of them and they didn't fall for it and skipped town and took their show to Las Vegas as Siegfreid and Roy.

I kinda lost the thread of my thought there, but just stop destroying the magic here. Go post your "happy" thoughts on the "Positive" board. We want more hate here.

Yes any faire. So the record can be known and not in defence of anything but the truth, at the joust they do not say "kill kill hate hate" etc,nor do they chant "blood makes the grass grow"...at least not at KRF anymore. There are other faires that still chant such things, but they really joust too, blood is real, broken bones. Krf decieded that after Columbine to tone it down. BTW to the first posting, have you even seen the joust this year? I have worked at faire for 10 years, my brother is a jouster, so if you have any questions let me know.

[> [> Re: Reasons for parents to hate. Just hate. Hate hate hate... -- Rob, 18:58:42 09/30/02 Mon

I can't speak to the more violent chants this year, as I haven't made it to KRF. But I do know that "Cheat To Win" is traditional for the evil side, and was certainly in evidence that last year I was there (even though there really weren't "good" or "evil" knights that year). Even if the cheerleaders aren't using it, you can bet that some of the longtime patrons are! :)

[> [> Re: Reasons for parents to hate ANY FAIRE -- Merryll, 21:35:15 09/30/02 Mon

The "hate" post was meant as a joke folks....just like this board.

No, I haven't been to the joust this year. I was referring to past years in which the chants I mentioned were quite prevalent. My kids still remember those chants from years past, not unlike all of the other long time patrons. We actually thought they were really funny the first few times we heard them. Still it's good to know that they have tried to eliminate the most offensive ones, seems like good judgement given the times we live in (although my kids will be wicked disappointed).

We don't =really= hate KRF and we don't =really= believe it's a bad influence on our kids. If we did we wouldn't have paid the big bucks to costume everyone and bring them to the faire every year of their lives.

Am I to be banished to the "up with rennie's" board now?

Merryll,

No offence given or taken, I just wanted to make sure that the right info was available. I must admit though, I really liked the nastier jousts, our own roman gladiator pit, sans lions( they're on the other side of the faire). During the football strike so many years ago, I remember record numbers of people to watch the joust...ahhh those were the days.

Point of order... Point of order Mr. chairman; I believe the "Up with rennie's" reference is a corruption of an earlier, admittedly inferior, post. And as self appointed head of the subcommittee to prevent StacyAnn's esteem from dipping, I'd just like to say "I'm embarrassed and appalled that such a blatantly facetious term would be used to describe what has been for years the preeminent renn board on the web."

[now plays the music from Bye Bye Birdy]
We love you Stacyann,
oh yes we do-oooh,
We love you Stacyann,
and we'll be true-oooh
When we're on the complaint board
It's Blue,
Oh Stacyann We Love You.

You do realize the good board is always going to be known as the 'Up with rennies' board now. It's already too late. These things take on a life of their own like Jesus or poggs. Forgive them StacyAnn They know not what they do.

[> New Joust for a new millenium -- Frank, 07:45:50 10/01/02 Tue

Due to the many complaints about the violent nature of the joust and especially the chants used to cheer on the knights, KRF has decided to make some necessary changes in the "presentation".

"Joust" conjures up too many images of people hurting each other, so from now on it will be called "Presentation"

The participants in the Presentation will be called Days, since "Knights", though spelled differently, sounds like "Nights", which are dark and scary.

In these times of international turmoil, it is negligent to show violence as a way to solve one's problems. Therefore, the Presentation will feature Days who have a "Disagreement" or "Mismatch of moral and or ethical values". To solve these "Disagreements", the Days will meet in the middle of the joust field to discuss their feelings and try to understand each other a little better.

The Apprentices, or "Slaves", are instructed to lead the crowd in cheers of "Talk it over!", "Take the High Road!", and "Use Your Words!".

The Presentation concludes when the Days feel empathy toward one another and hug each other and cry. The King praises the Days for their maturity and invites Loretta and her group (the only ones watching the Presentation), to join them in the final revels, in which everyone will sing simultaneously, so that everyone feels they are getting equal stage time and/or attention, and no one is better than anyone else.

These changes have been made under the direction of Ryann Bailey, in order to further destroy the magic that was King Richard's Faire, or KRFU as she has ordered Dave to call it.

>The participants in the Presentation will be called Days, since "Knights", though spelled differently, sounds like "Nights", which are dark and scary.

But "Days", though spelled differently, sounds like "Daze", which could imply a condoning of drug use. I therefore propose the name "People of Armor" for the Presentation's participants.

[> [> [> Re: New Joust for a new millenium -- Gumby, 10:23:00 10/01/02 Tue

But wouldn't "People of Armor" imply that they have always had the armor on? And why are they wearing armor? Wouldn't that also imply that they are expecting violence to break out?

Plus with all that armor it symbolizes that they all have something to hide. Perhaps if they stood naked on the "Conflict Resolution" field they would see each other on equal footing, and the conflict or "difference of opinion" could be settled in a more open and honest forum?

Just trying to help.

[> [> [> [> Re: New Joust for a new millenium -- Frank, 10:54:16 10/01/02 Tue

You bring up some good points. Are you sure you're Gumby?

Standing naked for the "Disagreement Resolution" ("Conflict" is too violent a word) would have the negative effect of forcing the participants to notice the size of each other's equipment, which opens a whole floodgate of inadequacy/superiority complex issues. Instead, the "Participants", as they will now be called, will be clad in large pieces of gray foam rubber, similar to the insulation which you would put on your pipes (which is, of course, an exclusionary course of action not supported by this group, since it involves separation of "Hot" and "Cold", with some prejudice as to which is "better" for your pipes). The effect is that of two gray cylinders coming together, having a difference of opinion or values, and settling it by talking to each other, realizing how very similar they, and in fact, we, all are, hugging, crying, and agreeing to work together toward a common good.

Fags.

[> [> [> [> [> Re: New Joust for a new millenium -- Gumby, 11:31:33 10/01/02 Tue

I think that when one of these disagreements is settled between at least 2 participants then all "spectators" should cheer and sing "We are the World" together to signify that the disagreement has been resolved and that everyone is a winner whether their representative participated in the disagreement resolution discussion or if they were mediators to facilitate the resolution.

That way everyone is a winner.

An excellent suggestion in theory, but if you will re-read the earlier post, you will notice that the spectators are Loretta and her entourage of two. And while they may be able to perform in three-part harmony, there is an age-old adage that holds true no matter how the politically correct winds blow:

"When Loretta sings, everybody loses"

Loretta doesn't talk to me anymore but even I wouldn't go that far.

My spine may be broken and my face bashed in and my fingers broken (so you might not want to know what I'm typing with right now) from a previous transgression against the King of Hate, but I still wouldn't want to be you.

You are so dead. No, I'm wrong. He won't let you die. He never lets the stupid ones die. He just plays with them until they beg to die and then he doesn't let them die more.

I wouldn't want to be you.

You are so ....Loretta

That's my term for when the King won't let you die and your life is an unending torment.

Cause that's what she makes my life like with all her stalking.

Stalking.

Stalking.

Stalking.

Which is even worse than all her talking.

Talking.

Talking.

Talking.

But you wouldn't know about that, would you? Not after what you did.

I wouldn't want to be you.

Evidently hate makes Gumby drunk. Drunk and begging for death. Go back to the ducal manor little man. Put on your girly little feathered hat and prance back to your predestined board and talk about your childhood memories. This board is not for the likes of you. Go back to Ryann Bailey and tell her that your attempt to destroy the magic of this board was discovered and you had to flee. Go claim something else for your "master". Go on a Zike Bike if you like. But Gumby will you please go now!

There! I said please. What else could you ask for.

Now go on! Get out of here Rudy! You're too small for football!

I can attest that at the Ct Faire this past weekend, Gumby did *not* seem to be filled with hate. In fact, he was having a pretty good time.

Of course, I was also having a pretty good time. But I was enjoying things like seeing huge scary Gustav trying to split adorable little Sara McElwain in half with a giant sword at the chessmatch. Now that's Evil. Not as evil as it would have been if he'd succeeded, of course, but still Evil.

To my knowledge, no one tried to split Gumby in half.

Of course, he had Bonnie Ray there to protect him.

Bonnie, of course, is just drenched in Evil. Because of all the time she spends with Dave & Ryann's kids.

Evil evil evil...
