"The real question is do they have the spiritual power of the Guru? Certainly not without the blessing of the Guru."

A lot of folks claim to have spiritual power and blessings of some live or dead Guru. The difference is, you can just go and ask the Guru if they are still in the body. Its hard to define a test for authenticity, though, after the Guru has left the body. So you suggest that we should look for "powerful results." Well, a lot of unfortunate folks thought they were getting powerful results with Jim Jones and David Koresh also. That is why authorization to teach becomes important.

The authorizations given to Kriyananda, et. al. were limited in the sense that they were given in context, in the context of their work via SRF. Davis and Walters were different than Deitz, they were SRF ministers. The development and growth of SRF was central to Yoganandaji's plan for disseminating his teachings. You see it again and again in his writings. I also recall a quote from Kriyananda in a letter published by SRF, wherein he states that it had been Yogananda's wish that only SRF monastics would give Kriya. All the evidence I have seen tells me that the authorization to teach, in this tradition, exists within the context of the organization Yoganandaji founded. And during his own lifetime, I cannot imagine him continuing to vouchsafe such authorization if the ordained Kriya minister just turned his back on SRF and started teaching on his own.

And yes, you and I can agree to disagree on this also.
