You certainly do not need any associates for your mud slinging Hendrik, you are doing a fine job by yourself.

I don't think that I am tough on Shibendu, I actually recommend seeing him to everybody who asks me. But to some extent he is a split personality and I cannot be just towards him when I blot out the other half which is, for many people, dominating and hurts many of them without good reason.

If the contact to a teacher is rewarding to a student that may also be due to the merits of the student, not necessarily so much to that of the teacher himself. Some students are of a very devotional nature and they will find something valuable almost everywhere. That is the advantage of devotion.

Shibenduji was not "forced" to do anything by his father. He was asked and the choice was his, as it was his sons, when asked.

This is correct on the surface only. In Benares, and this includes Shibendu's family and Shibendu himself, it is unthinkable to contradict the wishes of the father particularly in a serious matter like as in becoming the father's successor to his business. That is, there was never really a choice. I think Shibendu will attest to this himself if you ask him. It was simply his duty.

Nevertheless, "forced" was probably not a good word, because it wrongly suggests that Shibendu may have shown an active resistance in the beginning which I guess he didn't.

Maybe there is a misunderstanding about the continuing of the family lineage. Shibendujis son has agreed to continue the lineage.

Of course he has - as the only son he has no other choice. It is a venerable family tradition, and he is the only one around to continue it. But his son has shown no real interest in yoga yet although he practices Kriya for more than a decade. This means he will be the next "Lahiri" guru, independent of any qualification may they exist or not. I think it has been the same with Shibendu. This is, indeed, "family business".

Shibenduji has explained samadhis very well and I think it is in accord with the Yoga Sutras, which he has been writing a partial commentary on.

I cannot remember explaining him samadhi well. But it does not require own experience to talk well. Study of books and rhetorical talents will suffice. I remember him teaching: "Everything is Samadhi." Is that in line with the Yoga Sutras?

I have never heard him say anything that would give an impression he thinks he is a Christ.

He merely believes he is the prime representative of the only true yogic tradition and a pure embodiment of classic yoga such as Patanjali.

However he solemnly announced that he has no ego - publicly, and in my presence. If anyone takes this seriously, I cannot help him. I do not see why I should be throwing mud on him when I mention this. People should know about such eccentricities before they seek initiation from him.

About the "giving unconditionally" I think he just likes traveling and secretly hopes to find a girlfriend abroad. He is quite a lonely guy, and I do not envy him.

But it is true that he doesn't charge anything and shares freely what he has to offer.

Hendrik
