I guess Kaylee's dress begs the question, if the uppity rich of this planet wouldn't consider buying such a dress from a store, is there a big enough near-rich class on this planet to buy such things? As fresne points out, none of the catty girls says the dress is out-of-style. So some class of people must be buying them that wouldn't be invited to this ball, and who would have fairly fancy occaisions of their own on a regular basis.
