Now that you've reminded me, I agree it did look very much like a Russian military 'copter. That's probably where the set designers got the basic idea for their creation. I was actually thinking of the WWII night-fighter called the Black Widow which had a 'double cockpit' up front. Bombers of that era usually had one set of plexiglass for the pilot and one for the bombadier also. Some flying boats also had double snouts. But I think your idea is probably the source, in this case.

I imagine the Blue Hands have their own clean up crew, that follows them around. Unfortunately, even in real life there are folks willing to do disgusting things for evil people for a pay check.

When I think about whether someone deserved what they got or worse in fiction, I usually try to put them in the postion of having done the same thing around my own alien sci-fi characters from my own writing, who I consider to be fair, but generally unforgiving. If Jayne had done the same thing to them, I can't see them killing him. I believe he didn't know just how ruthless the Blue Hands are. But, on the other hand my aliens would never have trusted him again, and probably would have dumped him at the nearest reasonably safe planet.

Jayne is pretty much stuck now. He now understands the Alliance police bureaucracy is so corrupt, that he has no leverage against the others on Serenity. He correctly assumed like the others that whatever was causing the screaming was after them. And he knows the most important people on Serenity don't trust him either. His best friend is Simon, literally the guy he's been mercilessly picking on. For I guy with no conscience, Jayne probably is going to have a lot of sleepless nights.
