The pilot for Bab 5 is horrifically bad. If it's included in the DVD, watch it for laughs then forget it. Wisewoman comments below that the original commander is dorky. That's a fair critical assessment, not an isolated opinion. The actor who played the first commander was about as wooden as you'll see on TV. The show really took off after the first seaon, but you must understand what happens in the first season for the rest to make sense. I hope that doesn't scare you off for good.
