INDIAN WARS
*INDIAN RESISTANCE
-retaliation against the whites
-U.S. fought in CIvil War, tribes focused on attacking soldiers
-during Civil War Little Crow killed 700 whites
-38 were hanged for it
*SAND CREEK MASSACRE
-Cheyenne and Arapaho rebelled
-govener of Colorado offered protection of friendly tribes
-Black Kettle lead them to the protected spot but then they were massacred
-B.K. and some of his escaped and the captured& killed
-end of civil war focused went on indians
*INDIAN HUNTING
-mostly in Cali.
-killing indians for sport
-some offered rewards for scalps
-whites had goals of total elimination
-before civil war pop. of indians was 150,000 and the 30,000 in 1870
-peace talks never went through
-warriors united under Crazy HOrse and Sitting Bull
*LTTLE BIG HORN
-Custer meet 2,500 indians
-indians had no political orginization or enough supplies
-army ran them down
-put back on reservations
-Crazy HOrse ans Sitting Bull accepted defeat & were later killed
*CHIEF JOSEPH
-part of the NEZ PERCE tribe
-rebelled
-evaded the army
-went to the canadian bourder so got over
-joseph gave up and his people put back on reservations
