B. Women
i. men claimed women should work strictly in the home
a. this idea was supported by labor unions
ii. women claimed that men should be breadwinners, but if the opportunity is there for them to work, they should have that right
C. Molly Maguires
i. radicals for labor reform
a. sometimes used terrorist tactics
- attempted to intimidate coal operators through violence and sometimes murder
ii. there was widespread middle-class hostility toward unions
a. widespread unemployment; which depression conditions created
